It sounds like you may be a candidate for a cortisone shot on the l5, and some some therapy.

After looking it up on Google School Of Medicine, it explains a lot of my pain. The nerve root is being pressed on by the disc and the epidermal lipomatosis (it's a mass). Also narrowing of the "channel" the nerves run through (Spinal Stenosis), which no amount of weight loss and PT are going to fix. A steroid injection might be helpful, however, epidermal lipomatosis is usually attributed to steroids.. so there's that. I have requested to follow up directly with Dr. Bones and I'm going in with printouts of as much of this info as I can gather. I'm not trying to hear the conservative treatment lecture unless they want to admit that I will still be unable to work, which is absolutely true sans the corrective surgery and propbably still true with it, although it may improve over time and in CONJUNCTION with PT and weight loss.

Well, they referred me directly to spinal surgery center.

It sounds like they're serious, and that you need work.

My rheumatologist encouraged me today to call the orthopedic surgeon ASAP to get my lower half evaluated. As I said before, I’m very worried that I will lose my independence and/or I cannot tolerate the physical therapy. But I guess worrying about it is only exacerbating the situation. So I guess I’ll call Larson’s office and see if I can get in to see him in the near future.
i wish you luck. The Center’s ads seem very positive.

Bad news. Larson is booked through April. But, I have an appointment with his PA on Thursday. At least I can get films done and get the process started. Maybe get some additional pain management? 🤞

I have to say, it's always wonderful to find that your specialist is booked almost two months in advance. Tell me the benefits of our health care system again?

Two months is great. Three months, minimum, to see my shrink.

Ah, see the only time I see my shrink outside of regular medication checks is if there's an emergency, and they're pretty good about getting you in fast in that case.
It just made me think of Rally and his cries of how you would literally die waiting for an appointment if we switched to socialized medicine, cause it's sooooo quick to get an appointment now.

Sleeping has really become an issue. I just cannot find a position where the pain is tolerable. I’m very interested to see what the X-ray reveals.
ETA: sorry, John. I didn’t mean to hijack your thread. Have you got an appointment yet?

I was just telling someone the other day "yeah I started a thread and this lady hijacked it!"...... LOL.
Had jobs to do so rescheduled appt for the 21st with the Spinal Surgeon. As anxiety ridden as I am about it, I was working on a sound board yesterday and couldn't get up from the chair. Got about 6 inches off and the pain shot through my lower back and left leg, and had to go back down. Several tries. Second time that has happened while sitting in the last two weeks. So, if they can fix that, just give me the Versed and do what you gotta do.

I hate seeing people hijack someone else’s post. It’s very annoying. Again, I apologize.
And, thanks for calling me a lady, although bitch would have been just fine. That Elton John song was my theme back in the day.

I'm not bothered by it on the internet. When I call my mom, though, then it gets annoying.

Hear me now and listen to me later. It's all in the living will. You don't want your ovaries to keep David Rockefeller alive for another 13 months, do you?

Hatin life today. Went grocery shopping and not even halfway through the sweat was just rolling off of me. Had to ask the meat guy who always talks to me for some paper towels to swab off. I wonder how much longer I can put off meeting with this surgeon.

When is your appointment again? I've been very lucky, but I have friends who have told me that back pain is the worst pain they have ever been in in their lives I'm going to have to call them today and set up a new appointment. Need to hear what they have to say about it and what they can DO about it right now. Any relief would be greatly appreciated at this point.
