that only trump could set stock market records www.thebalance.com/dow-jones-closing-history-top-highs-and-lows-since-1929-3306174but Biden said "hold my beer". It's odd to me now and it was odd to me a while back to see so many retail stores like WM and Homey Depot and all the bars and food places, and even some other on-site service industries like car washes, and tire stores... all just slammed with people. You don't think of this area being a place where money gets thrown around and certainly nowhere near the $ p/c like Fairfax and Loudon. 30% inflation hasn't shortened the lines at self fucking checkout as near as I can tell.

Silly man - they're all stocking for the End Times, cause we all know that Satan (Biden) is going to kill us by making us all get the vaccine!

Car wash is for the future - we all know that it's good to keep your house clean, and those folks will be living in their cars soon, right?
At least to hear the Qs talk about it....

Just read that more people quit their jobs in September than any month on record. Maybe there's just an excess of cash in folk's pockets right now.
BTW- I wasn't really talking about yesterday Thursday but metaphorical Thursday where it's a middle of the day middle of the week thing where you certainly don't anticipate a mad dash to the car wash. Which actually might include soon to be open rain windows.

I think people are just fed-up.
Companies keep telling people to do more with less - maybe their employees are taking the advice to heart and realizing they can do more with less - buying less crap and saving money so they can quit!

We're going to see increasing numbers of people quitting as Boomers retire.

A lot of these jobs that people are quitting are in the hospitality industry. Those were thankless jobs back in my day of shitty jobs. Now, people fell free to abuse anyone and everyone. I don’t blame anyone for quitting a job in order to better themselves and/or their situation in life.

One would think that people would appreciate those who work in the hospitality and education industries more now that there are shortages, but noooooo.
Abuse by the public is at an all-time high. Even employers who treat their workers well are struggling - who would take that job when you have customers yelling at you (at the least).
Yet people wonder why no one wants those jobs....
And yeah, I think employers are going to be in for quite a rude awakening - lots of people deciding to take early retirement and their experience with them - can't just dump a new grad into that role and expect them to take off and have the same level of expertise and competence.
Kind of like all those manufacturing jobs Rally used to love to go on about. People didn't want to uproot their families, move to the middle of nowhere, and pick up a new field where they had very little experience and no guarantee that the job would be there in a year. I wonder what was up with that???

www.marketwatch.com/story/u-s-workers-still-quitting-jobs-at-record-levels-and-worsening-the-labor-crunch-11636730264It's not just one thing and it's not just one industry. Our area is pulling people, supervisors, detectives, and even some short timers from their desk assignments to work on beats, EMS, and fire trucks because they are dozens upon dozens short handed on the street. I think the police chief said LBG is has 16 officer positions open. The hospital is crying for help. I have heard that more people quit because of their coworkers who refused to get vaxed than the ones that got fired for not. It's not like being a nurse was a low stress, bankers hours, gravy job to begin with. So how many RN's have quit the workforce? Probably not as many as have taken half the pay for double the piece of mind. So everyone is right because it's not just one thing it's everything. Polling these people is about the only way to know what is driving the trends, but with 6 million that's a tall dang order. I've never worked in hospitality but based on my observations, the people you see in those jobs, particularly the ones who do the domestic stuff like cleaning, washing, cooking, etc are/were minimum wage paid Hispanic. Is it possible that the Trump admins war on immigrants might have run a lot of these people out, too? I don't know. The last time we were in ohio and stayed at the massive holiday inn there, the working staff was comprised largely of older to much older white women and some middle aged black women. Older professional type black and white women at the desk. The bar was open but the kitchen was not. This was in Sept of this year so you can say it is consistent with current trends and not at all what I'm used to seeing in our travels over the years.
