Fucking FLS paywall.
Even though it conflicts with my own opinions about nanny-state-ism, individual liberties, and individual responsibility, I find the growing pervasiveness of legalized gambling extremely slimy in this day and age. It's one thing to build venues for the industry. It's quite another to make it available to every person with an internet connection.
Have yall seen that Hard Times has a fucking casino area? The law that shut all that shit down was overturned on appeal and now all the machines, which they literally converted half the c-stores around here into mini casino parlors, are all back up and running. People, many of which you can look at and tell do not have the money to lose, are stuffing 20s in those things like crazy. Again, I don't want to make a law banning all this stuff if it's what people want to do, but there is a sleeze factor that just doesn't sit right with me either.

And it's another thing to have the online gaming industry pimping themselves during every sports broadcast to let you know how easy it is to download their app and start tossing your bucks at them.
I'm not a huge fan of gambling - I find it pretty boring. What I object to is the state subsidizing it, which is pretty much Las Vegas and Atlantic City. I doubt any of the major casinos could make it on their own without the tax breaks they're getting to exist. And of course if they fold, so does LV and AC.
I'm with you on the sleaze (and ease) factor. OTOH, hard for the state to take the high road as they rack in millions on lotto tickets.

And it's another thing to have the online gaming industry pimping themselves during every sports broadcast to let you know how easy it is to download their app and start tossing your bucks at them. Every commercial break on every channel and even on the radio regardless of programming... but also on billboards, busses, sign board vehicles, and literally all manner of advertising space. And yes, the lotto was included in my general distaste for over-pushed and way too easy to access gambling rant. Would the weed industry be allowed to model their marketing this way?

Oh Hell No!
We can't be promoting the Devil's Lettuce! Kids might start using it!
And we all know those online websites vet your age and really, really verify it. Right?
