I think we should have done all of the 'enhanced sanctions' before Vlad had a chance to move tank #1.
Aside from the people of Ukraine, my biggest worry on the home front is a cyberattack that takes out shit like banks or hospitals.
Hoping I am wrong.....

Sanctions of any kind aren't going to save Ukraine from becoming part of the New USSR. We have 2 choices.

Correct - and judging from today's coverage, Putin isn't fucking around with his invasion either - he's in there full-force destroying what little there is of Ukraine's forces.
And he has a list of everyone he wants to round up first to get out of the way.
So what's your prediction on our response - nothing or all-out 'police action'. Cause we all know Congress isn't going to get off their collective asses fast enough to declare actual war.

A zero sum game so probably a lot of huff and puff but a lot less blow your house down. Ukraine has already been conceded by the US and NATO. Otherwise Russia wouldn't have gone in to start with. Right? The main question is what are his other ambitions? I've seen the Russian social media trolls out in full force today, starting with the usual "the US government is a tyranny, taxes are theft, stock up on ammo" song and dance.

Don't forget the whole "Now I'm paying more for gas because Biden is fucking up, and Obama cancelled the Keystone pipeline!"
Ukraine has a nice store of natural gas from what I've read. Kind of amazed that NATO hasn't been a little more worried about that - do they really want Putin controlling the supply?

Ukraine has a lot more than gas. I read an article yesterday about the vast amount of natural resources in that country - minerals and elements desired for manufacturing. They also have a large percentage of manufacturing there. I’ll have to see if I can find it.

Mr. Minx was talking about that as well - lots of technology parts and stuff rely on resources from Ukraine. Putin is already calling on Ukrainian 'talks' - surrender terms in process

The loud talker yesterday was saying that Obama is behind everything and calling the shots for Biden. I was going to interrupt and ask if he meant Joe or Hunter. And then ask how they could forget about Hillary. But I decided to laugh at the sinners and cry with the saints.

Loud talker is a fool, Trump is still secretly in charge. He's just letting Biden think he's got the reins.

What's truly sad are the amount of right-wing fools posting memes and jokes about Biden freaking because his 'investments' in Hunter's career are going down the drain - clear implication - the only reason we care about Ukraine is Biden's money.
I refrain from giving these fools the time of day, but all I could think looking at those memes was 'At least Biden gives a shit about what's happening to those people - y'all will cheer as the tanks crush them' And of course next year when Vlad controls the majority of the world's supply of minerals, everyone will say 'Who saw this coming?' Ugh.

What's even better is one-time former leader of the free world and democracy's greatest hope, Mango Mussolini, cheerleading for Vlad and denouncing his own country. What is the definition of treason again? I keep forgetting.
BTW- Pooty has put his nuclear forces on "high alert" despite the fact that no country has so much as whispered about sending their troops to fight for Ukraine. But now he has assured that every nuclear weapon outside of Russia is pointed at it. Maybe with the possible exception of China which appears, at least for now, to have rethought their support of Putin.
I guess those sanctions are starting to burn his ass afterall.

Now if we could convince China to say 'Putin is a dick' as well, maybe we could get his ass out of Ukraine.
I will say that the Ukrainian resistance is inspiring and depressing.
Inspiring, because these people are bad-ass and I want to be like them when I grow up. Depressing because hell could freeze, and I still couldn't be that brave.

I'm hoping it's not over, and that everyone in the West has the balls to stay the course and keep sanctions tight and add more as needed. Because I think they're having an effect as Vaddy is suddenly all about negotiating a cease-fire.
So now the West needs to say that why yes, a cease-fire is a very nice start. Once all of your troops are gone from Ukraine, then we can talk about easing sanctions. Until then, fuck you.

Ukraine has a military right? A good size one I imagine. They've obviously been involved in shooting at Russians, at least as much if not more than the civilians. / Not understanding how they have not used that military to choke off and burn the supposed 40 mile convoy headed for Kyiv. Seems like a grand opportunity to take out roads and bridges ahead of them and do a concentrated strike before they can disperse. Kill box highway of death type shit. Maybe I'm Trump and know more than the generals.
I probably will be watching the SOTU tonight just to hear what Joe has to say about the Soviet Union II. And especially what he says about the implication Putin made wrt nuclear readiness (which was a blurb for our newspapers) even though the nukular countries are always on "high" readiness. When I was younger I used to have way too much anxiety about nukes being lobbed around until no one was left, and I'd rather my children and grandchildren not have to experience those same anxieties for them or their families. There was a time when a certain POTUS was a very strong leader but also knew just what to say to the American People, at least some assurance that he was on top of it to make sure it never happened.

Ukraine does have a military, but from what I've read, the Russians greatly outnumber them. And Ukraine is a large country, so I believe their military have to do some picking and choosing of their battles. I have read about bridges being blown up, so maybe they are out there doing so, and we just haven't heard about it. And Poots didn't say they were on high readiness, but that he was pointing them towards the west. Fun times we live in

Yes and that convoy would be the battle to pick. The Russian people are already pissed so I can imagine that going into unprecedented action if 1000s of their soldiers get slaughtered. And this is not a new concept as you know. The Highway of Death was an actual thing. It "could" be a trap based on how savvy their planners (same planners sent their kids on a "training exercise") are when it comes to the playbook.
Oh, I just remembered another thing Reagan said- They counted on America to be passive. They counted wrong. Joe might have to shine here, and I think he has so far, but Emperor Vladski does too. He does NOT want to let one bullet across a NATO border. Not one. And Poland very well, in fact I'd almost bet on it, is exactly where it will happen.

Joe definitely has to shine, and you are right in terms of the battle to pick.
From what I'm reading most of the Russian soldiers would rather be anywhere but Ukraine right now.

Read an article that said Russians are sabotaging their tanks and equipment to avoid fighting.
And the Ukraine army seems to be holding the line regarding Kiev, so fingers crossed....

For a country with such great military might on land, sea, and air, and it's top people keep talking about vaporizing humanity, it appears as though their air force has been largely absent from the fight. So you have to ask yourself what tf is going on. Are they loosening up the ground to make Ukraine a staging area for invading the baltics and eventually all of Europe??
