The second iteration of this absolutely fantastic series starts tonight. They follow one family of a certain animal for a year or more. The last series followed chimpanzees, lions, tigers, emperor penguins and the painted dogs of Africa (my favorite , or course but I loved them all). Dynasties II follows elephants, cheetahs, meerkats, hyenas, baboons and one other that I don’t remember. It’s narrated by Sir David Attenborough and is on BBCA at 8 PM.

Puma! The other family is pumas. Just saw an ad (BBCA has been doing 3 days of nature).

I was totally thinking of the nightime soap from the 80s and wondering why you were so into it!

It’s not dy-nasty in Britain, it’s din-asty.

Cheetah next week. I think they are my favorite cat, although the puma runs a close second. Oh, wait, the snow leopard!
They’re saving the meerkats for last, I bet. Meerkat Manor starts up soon. Talk about soap operas! They produce that just like a soap opera, devising dramatic stories and character lines. It’s fantastic-funny but educational.

Hyena is next. They are my least favorite animal, I believe. They always look like they’re taking a shit, with their sloped backs.

Meerkats are this weekend! I guess they’re holding the baboon until last. Although it was educational, the hyena program did not increase my affection for them.

Sorry, next week isn’t baboon. It’s barberry macaques. Or however that is spelled.
This week was terribly sad. Yes, I sobbed through quite a bit. But, the “on location” part was absolutely hilarious. Once the meerkats became accustomed to the videographers, they hung around them a lot as they provided shade in a flat, treeless environment. They would climb on the cameramen and producers and use them as lookouts. The ubs would sit on their shoes! It really gave the viewer a good impression of how tiny meerkats are.
