He'll go to war, real war, pew pew bang, with China over Taiwan? I'm starting to lose my innocence about the new world order. I'm just wondering what business interests Hunter has in that part of Asia...... must be some serious pull.

Maybe he was stating our actual established policy.

No, we've always had that policy - it's something called strategic ambiguity and has been in place since the Nixon administration.
So Taiwan is higher on the priority list for us and always has been.

Hm. And here I thought our policy was "One China" but further research revealed that "ambiguity" you speak of. www.state.gov/u-s-relations-with-taiwan/My point was that policy is not a blood pact and can be changed at any time, especially every 4 years. But I understand why Taiwan is important enough to start ww3 and ukraine is not. It says right there in the link.

Ukraine would have been worth it if they'd been a NATO member. By the same token, we didn't say boo about Russia going into Afghanistan or Syria (Syria, where the prior president gifted the Rooskies a whole military base, complete with airstrip, built by American $).
PS I remain committed to Giant Meteorite's Earth Reformation Plan.

There's a big one headed this way Friday.
I'm being a little serious and a little DA here about all of this stuff. I think that we are infinitely better off with the average sized hands on the wheel than we were before. That doesn't mean I'm buying what he is selling and I sure don't agree with what he's giving away, especially if it's just for the media's consumption. Oh well, at least he doesn't have a twitter account. Or did I miss that one too?

Nixon basically sold Taiwan down the river to open relations with China, and we all have continued that policy rather than fully recognize Taiwan.
I know you're shocked to read that we sold another nation down the river. I certainly was....
