Yep, yesterday I broke down and bought one. It’s been over 8 years since my fridge died. Woot had a portable one that has freezer capability for under $200 so I decided to give it a whirl. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ve grown very tired of pizza. And pizza is my favorite food! (Not so much Dominos - never been a big fan of their pizza but no one else here delivers). So I’m considering getting one of those food subscriptions, but for those you need chilling or freezing capability. We will see how this works.

It's a miracle! Seriously, I am glad you got a fridge at last. We did Hello Fresh for a bit - main issue for us was that it was pricey. But the meals did taste good, and were pretty easy to make - they do make what is advertised - so if it's a meal for two, it makes two good sized portions. We weren't hungry after eating them.

I briefly looked at the Freshly page and wasn’t impressed. I don’t want to cook at all, so microwave is what I need.

I can get that. I bought a Ninja Foodie convection oven/toaster/airfryer and it has been a true game changer. It sits on the countertop and truly does a lot of shit - we use it to roast veggies, make chicken and pizza and I have even made brownies in it.
Doesn't heat up the kitchen either.

I put in an order at Walmart for pick-up this afternoon. At 11:30 this morning I got a push from their app saying my order had been delivered. I was like WTF? It turned out to be one thing- a box of Belvita crackers. WTF???
Anyway if they'll deliver one box o crackers I imagine Stouffers mac n cheese would be no problemo, even the one with broccoli in it which is the bomb.

So, on a whim I just bought a Tovala oven (it was marked down to $99 from $299) and a few meals to try. They won’t arrive for a couple weeks, as I need to get things set up here. The little portable fridge hasn’t arrived yet (it’s been shipped but there’s no delivery estimate yet) plus I need to get the oven set up.
When I first saw the ads for this many many months ago, I was intrigued. I love gadgets! (When I was a little kid, I wanted to be a cashier🤣🤣🤣 it was around the time those new fangled cash registers came out with all the buttons. Before the scanners. They were capable of doing inventory as long as the cashiers input the codes correctly. )

When I worked for Kinney Shoes as a teenager, they still had the mechanical registers. Every sale had to be hand written and there was a little cheat sheet for the sales tax. Then about a month after I started, they switched to the electronic ones (no scanners yet). Now they have stores you just fill your basket and roll out. Big Brother will handle the whole transaction for you in the cloud.
Good to see you looking forward to some things.

It’s a necessity. But, I have suddenly found myself ravenous recently and leftover pizza just hasn’t cut it. I finished off a whole large pizza a couple days ago! I couldn’t believe I had no leftovers.

My first food order was supposed to arrive yesterday via FedEx. I checked the porch when I arose yesterday and it wasn’t there. Tracked the shipment and it’s stuck in Lewisberry, PA with the status of “delayed”. Um, okay. Don’t bother. I’m sure that food will be good and ripe by the time it gets here.

Faceplam
Doesn't the nearest Walmart deliver to you? Why on earth would you buy perishable food from someplace that has to ship it? The only time I've done that was with Omaha steaks. They ship the orders in an actual foam cooler (damn thing is nicer than most of my coolers) and packed in dry ice. Of course that was before the entire freight and shipping industries turned upside down with every mook trying to squeeze another vendor in so they could get their silent cut from everyone else's effort.
I put in an order for "curbside" pickup at Walmart a couple weeks ago and apparently I did something wonky on their wonky app and one of the items was sitting on our doorstep. A box of Belvita breakfast crackers, on the porch, I had no idea. But anyway, that was delivered like first thing in the morning and my pickup times are always mid-afternoon. It's so convenient not to mention safer than going into those stores no matter what time you go.

The Tovola oven requires you to order their special foods I think.
One of our friends got WM+ so she could get free delivery. Her husband had a stroke and cannot go out around a lot of people - she loves it. They deliver within the window specified and she said that the meats and produce always look great. One time she got a moldy peach and just called to let them know - more like being polite more than anything else, since the rest of the batch was fine. They credited her for the peaches and sent her a new order of them. She's beyond happy.

Say what you will about wm but they really go above and beyond when it comes to customer service.
I returned some hardware I ordered from a place in the internet called Stone Harbor Hardware. 300 dollars worth. Turned out the hinges I ordered were not really usable on these doors because all but one of them are already in corners where you gain nothing from extra clearance, becaust the other side of the doors are limited to where the knob hits the wall at 90 degrees. Anyway, I opened the box they were shipped to me in but didn't remove them until I took that box to the post office and ship back in the flat rate box. I remember counting the hinges as I put them in the usps box and everything was in order. Well, yesterday I got an email saying they had received my return but could only give me credit for 4 of the 10 sets (a 200 dollar loss) because there were only 9 packs and 5 were unsellable because they were missing their original packaging and the screws that went with them. Scam me much, lady? I got my 200 losses worth cussing her out on the phone I promise you that.

Shit. I spent over an hour yesterday trying to get that damn oven to connect to my Wi-Fi. Never got it. They tell you to scan this code but it’s not apparent where to actually hold the phone to scan the fucking code! So, I need to go online to figure it out. And tell them to credit me for the food that is still sitting in PA. They ask for your zip code to determine whether they can ship to you. This shipment originated in Chicago.
My tp arrived today via FedEx, it was shipped from PA yesterday.
As far as Walmart goes, I’m not a trusting person when it comes to shopping. 🤪😜

I'm not a trusting person when it comes to fresh food in general, but the youngest told me that the food pickers in WM and Giant are penalized if customers complain about the quality (they don't get their pay cut, but it's definitely noted at review time). That's why you see them dawdling over produce, but speeding through canned goods.
I did see that oven online and was intrigued. Sorry that it turned out to be a too-good-to-be-true thing.
And John, don't get me started on the 'it wasn't in it's original packaging' thing. How the hell are you supposed to know if the item doesn't work or is defective if you never open it??? Assholes.

Success! This morning, as I passed the oven to head upstairs, I decided to give it a whirl (I had seen an ad on tv and had a general idea of where to hold my phone. I couldn’t find a video online after a cursory search. My Wi-Fi has been throttling for over 3 months now as AT&T thinks I’m over my limit. Wheel, if you don’t reser the counter every month, then of course I’m over my limit! And try calling customer support.) Evidently, the scanner needs light to scan - who knew? I was using a flashlight to hook it up and find the buttons. I figured those laser things worked fine in the dark.
Got “Tovala credit” for the food, and they suggested that I discard it when it arrives. I don’t think it’s coming. Nearly a week and it’s still in PA. I bet it’s smelling really sweet now. There’s shrimp in there!
ETA: while I was on their website over the weekend, I noticed the ovens are now $50. Wow, that doesn’t look good for them. They were $300 when I first looked at them.
Fucking Wi-Fi. It take me 10 minutes to order a pizza and I get the same order. Every. Single. Time. But having to refresh the page several times is frustrating. I’m lucky I don’t receive multiple orders. 🤣🤣

Thumbs up on the oven, but thumbs down on the rest.
Eldest got a new phone last week. She's still on our phone plan, so I told her it was okay to charge it there, and just give us the cash. Phone is activated, and I can see how much we need to pay. I click on 'pay off phone', and get a message that I need to pay my Verizon bill first. Mind you, I have no problem with this, BUT I ALSO HAVE A CREDIT BALANCE! How am I supposed to pay off a credit?
Goddamn corporate entities.

My favorite meal so far has been Penne Champagne. They sell it as 2 servings so I’ve had it 2 days in a row and it’s delicious and very quick to prepare: remove from packaging, stir the penne, top with the provided Italian cheese mix and pop it in the oven. 20 minutes later and it’s ready. It also comes with a triple chocolate chip cookie but I haven’t tried that yet as I’ve been full from the meal.
I’ve also enjoyed the breakfast meals that I’ve tried. I wish they wouldn’t add bacon or sausage. 🤢. I’ve made a mista or 2 when ordering. I didn’t realize that the stuffed shells had an Italian sausage sauce. (I ordered it twice!) I scraped the sauce off of the first one but couldn’t finish it -I’ve never been fond of bacon or sausage and, although I didn’t eat the sauce, the flavor of the sausage was evident. After my 6 week commitment, I may end up canceling. It depends a lot on how many meals I find that I really like. If they offered a breakfast-type meal every week that I could eat, it wouldn’t be a problem. At east I’ve learned now to dig deep into the contents to make sure there’s no fur or feathers involved.

Of course. They even, provide a cook book and a list of companies that provide scannable packaging to make the oven’s use easier. (No, John, Stouffer’s isn’t on the list yet.🤣) It’s mainly a convection oven.

This will be my first week without pizza in many many months. And I’m not missing it at all. My current meal plan allows for 4 meals/week (I originally signed up for 6, but I couldn’t fit them in my little fridge, plus it’s too expensive). Some of the meals they offer provide 2 helpings, and it just so happens that all of the meals I ordered are 2 helpings each. And, I like them all, which is a first. So I have 8 meals; 2 of them are breakfast but I love breakfast anytime - I had breakfast for dinner today!
I have fulfilled my 6 week commitment but I may hang in there as long as they offer meals I am interested in eating.

I agree, Bob. I was under the impression that the app would notify me when the food is ready, but it doesn’t. It did, once or twice. Now I use Siri to set a timer. The oven has a little beep, but it must be an octave out of range of my deaf ears because I can barely hear it standing right next to it.
