Welcome to our world! My first thought was, “why couldn’t someone have done this to pumpkin head back in 2015?”

The sad thing is that the NRA is going to milk this for all it's worth - Japan has some of the strictest gun laws in the world.
So you know they'll be all over telling their constituents that gun control doesn't work. Because one man with an illegal (and from what I've read, more homemade than not) weapon was able to fire two shots at one other man. Therefore it's equal to some kid spewing hundreds of bullets in 10 minutes over a crowd at a parade. Or another being able to purchase multiple weapons and take out a classroom of 5th graders the day after.
Ugh.

I read somewhere that the shooter was retired military. I figured the gun was a service weapon. Maybe it was 3D-printed? Those things are notoriously off-target and I thought only shot one round.

It looked like it was made from pipes.
I had read that that one death increased Japan's annual gun death total by 10%. So 11 dead for 125M people but it isn't the easy availability of guns.

Wow. If that’s the case, he must have been a helluva marksman. A shot to the heart with a pipe gun!
Sad thing is, if he had been shot here in the US, he would probably have had better odds as our trauma departments have a lot of experience with gunshot wounds.

I read today that his second shot is the one that entered his neck and heart. Now I’m thinking it was just a lucky shot.

It hit him in the neck, but at the right angle to travel down to his heart. So yeah, lucky shot.
