Once, when I traveled with my husband’s coworker, we stopped at a restaurant but I have no memory of what it was. I love the drive (it’s a good thing, since I made it every weekend for 18 months!), particularly through the horse country on that windy road from Gordonsville. Beautiful drive. It’s a beautiful day for it. I haven’t been there since the day my husband died.

Was it www.bbqex.com/ ? I used to go out there just for this place and completely forgot it's like a minute off route! We sometimes take the Rt3 to Rt29 way since she isn't a fan of the Rt20 way but we could do one getting there and the other coming back. Not much in the way of scenery and they didn't have outdoor seating last time I was there. But it's been a few years. There's also that winery on 29, Prince Michel or some such, and Graves Mountain in Reva/Syria. Both of them are super nice to enjoy the views and the weather.

The first time I went the route 20 way with my husband (on the way to Lynchburg/Bedford), as we passed an estate he told me his uncle lived there. I believed him! It was an ongoing joke for awhile.
No to the bbq place. I don’t do bbq! Poor piggies. 😢😢😢😢 It was a Ruby Tuesday type place.

I get turned around in that gd city every time we go to UVA since we moved here. The 1:20 drive home was 2:02 because I farked up leaving (didn't use the GPS). Spitting nails by the time we got home, gas on EMPTY, hungry AF, sat in traffic on 621 of all freakin places (by Lake Wilderness and Fawn Lake because of that STUPID 4 way stop at Gordon Rd. And she was having a rough time being in that chair all day so when she's uncomfortable I'm uncomfortable. And oh by the way when we got back to the car my phone had a voicemail informing me my order from Cleveland was not going to ship until next week AND my shipment from Jamaica was also delayed. Thanks be to Gord I had all the stuff made to heat up and build some burritos quickly and relatively easy. Punished those MFers and ready for an Ativan and bed.

Definitely need AC today. My house has been in the mid 60s since I turned off the heat early last month. I’m sure that will change today. It sounds very icky.

I was surprised when we got home at around 6 on Tuesday the air had not kicked on. We set it at 72 and it was 71 in the house. It's already on today and I've only been out the garage door once so far.
I'm getting in the latter stages of this project now and hoping for one or two more "nice" days to help make the final push so I can move on with my life. I got the stairs done yesterday and that was all I could muster after 3 full days of not touching it. Today I'm trying to get the railing done but it's unlikely I'll finish that since I probably won't even start in ernst until there's some shade out there to work with. Usually around 4, which gives me an hour before she asks what's for dinner. FML.

My house was 68 when I came downstairs tonight so the AC hasn’t cut on down here, either. I used to have the thermostat set on 68 for the dogs (all that sheepie hair) but now it’s on 72.
I must say, I love my mighty oak. Now that it’s leafed, my bedroom doesn’t heat up as badly and it keeps the entire house (except for the garage) shaded and cool. May it never die! (But I do hate the disgusting droppings in the spring. Don’t mind the acorns but why that messy shit sperm?)

Nugget was here this morning for a short visit. After they left I got myself staged and ready to cut boards too short and round off some screw heads. Brutally humid. Then after I got the first board fitted it started to rain. Not sure if I'm relieved or pissed.

I know I’ll hate myself for this tomorrow, but I miss the humidity right now. The air here is way too dry for me.
Of course, the moment I step off the plane tomorrow, I’ll take it all back!
Nephew’s officially a college graduate now. Ceremony was long, but they did keep things moving. Speaker was the president of T-Mobile. His speech was short and pretty good. He had the 10 rules for life. #1 - never wear socks with sandals. #5 - get off your family plan and switch to T-Mobile - only $35/mo. (This came after a string of serious advice and was absolutely hysterical) #10 - never wear socks with sandals. ‘I know you’re thinking that I already said that, but it bears repeating.’
Going to BILs house for dinner in a bit.

So glad I finished that ramp before this weather. Still have a couple of little things but it's completely functional and decorated until fall. Other than a few weeks in early spring, it was one of the most spectacular late April, most of May, and early June springs i can remember.
The past week has been dick.

Yep. We are back to reality. I think this is the first time my electric bill for June has ever been under $150!
But I’m loving the clouds and showers! The fireworks, not so much. My next door neighbor shot some loud ones off around 2030. 😖😖😖

So now that my main AC is on and running, I am getting the feeling that all is not well. The heat hits me in the face as I make the final turn when descending the stairs. I believe it needs “charging” (do they still do that now that Freon is no longer used?). Anyone know how much that costs? It seems to be recycling the warm air. I turned the thermostat down to 70 but it stays an icky 73 and the unit is running constantly. Of course, my clutter covers some vents, so that doesn’t help.
I was thinking I could tolerate it with the ceiling fans running in tandem, but I hate sweating and I sweat if I exert any energy at all in these conditions.

They all use refrigerant so you could have someone charge it, if that's the issue. First thing I would check is to make sure the outdoor unit doesn't have anything around it like weeds, leaves, debris etc. and that it's not forming ice on it. No idea what AC service calls cost these days. It's been a while since we've been down that road and had a couple of friends, friends of friends, that helped us out with our AC units back in our old house.

Oh, yeah. I need to check that. There’s probably some weeds that I can knock down (my grass guy does nothing but mow, weed wack around the trees walkways, and blow the trimmings away. Nothing extra.
Thank goodness the upstairs one is working. Otherwise, it would be unbearable in here.

That's one of the reasons why I'm not a fan of this type of weather. AC problems can and does become dire and expensive all at the same time.

Boy did I jinx myself. Bigly. I awoke for the first pee around 1530. When I removed the sleep masks I noticed it was cloudy. Good. It will keep the room cooler. While on the pot, I started hearing a roaring sound. WTF? Went back in the bedroom and it was even louder- rain. (Bedroom has a cathedral ceiling, so it isn’t unusual to hear rain. But the bathroom is traditional, with an “attic space”, so I rarely hear rain on the roof in there. Crawled into bed and watched the storm. Although I’m nearly blind, I could see the sheets of rain! Then it started raining sideways, pelting the windows! It was a little scary. Then the power went out, for just a few seconds. Whew! That was close. Then it went out again. And stayed out. I reported it and then waited. Nine fucking hours. Trees took power lines down on both sides of me. Dominion notified me around 1930 that my power had been restored. Nope. Checked the app for the status and it said it would be restored around 1200AM - 200 AM. Okay. Try to get some sleep. It’s nice to have 2 sources of power but it sucks when both go down at the same time.
We are back up now. But I haven’t seen it rain like that in many years. It was amazing. And there was at least one lightning strike that was very very close, and looked like it may have hit near the spot of the second downed power line.

Holy lightning strike!
It seemed like deja vu. First pee time, rumbling thunder, torrential rain. This time, there was a lot more lightning and it wasn’t raining sideways, although there was a lot of wind and there were sheets of rain. But it wasn’t shaking my windows. I watched for a bit, then turned over and closed my eyes. BOOOOOOOM! I saw the lightning with my eyes closed! And I ducked! That was the loudest thunderclap! I thought sure I’d been hit - the few strands of hair I have were standing up. No burn holes anywhere that I could see. But, I saw the fan blades slowing down. Fuck me! Grabbed the phone (that was no longer charging) and brought up the app to report the outage. A few minutes later, Dominion says it’s not us - it’s you! Fuck me again! So I grab a pair of glasses and start heading downstairs to check the circuit box. Hmmm…it seems the upstairs AC is still running, as I can hear the return duct whooshing. As I make the last turn going down, I see the ceiling fan twirling and the light that I always leave on is shining! Okay, maybe this isn’t so bad. Get to the kitchen, and the microwave is still demanding that I set the time and date. Make my way to the garage and hobble over to the breaker boxes. I locate the ones for the bedrooms and one does look tripped (but didn’t they use to have a red strip that makes it obvious?). I reset that one and also the others marked bedroom and crossed my fingers. Headed back upstairs and found all was well! Hallelujah!
And, although my receiver was working fine when I came down to reset the breaker (it was recording), it is dead now. No juice at all. Now I HAVE to call.
No more of these violent storms, please.

Nothing of any real significance in my area for a minute now. Going back at least 2 weeks. Sees a bolt-o-lightning today while trying to push this gd mower so that flash saved me day. Other than that nothing still. Radar showed a big line that split in half right over us. It's the Jews controlling the weather believe me!

My power started flickering again, but it was long after all the storms had passed. Around 11 PM it flickered - my phone complained when power was lost during its charge. Then again around 12:30 or 1 AM. As long as it’s a flicker, okay. But it is still annoying. Storms did not awaken me from my slumber this time, so that’s a plus.

Well sheeeeeeet. I leave for a week and Mother Nature goes full-scale bitch mode!
Was on a cruise with super shitty Wi-Fi. Normally I don’t care, but this time I actually paid for it so I could download books and keep up here. Was a total crap shoot - one minute you’re getting a connection and the next it’s gone. Like I said I would have been fine if they didn’t say uptime was going to be around 80%.
The people who I really felt for were the ones with medical equipment like glucose monitors that rely on Wi-Fi connectivity. They bought the top of the line plan (our best coverage), and couldn’t sustain a connection. The couple I talked to said that while they were super pissed, they were also smart enough to bring backup, so it was back to fingersticks and manual monitoring.

Pam did you get your ac thing worked out? I think the county and maybe even the power companies can help out. It's freaking miserable. I have the air on 74 and it feels like a walk in freezer in the house when you go inside. I'm sitting out in the garage with the fan on full blast aimed right at me. Just having one of those days where I'm hopping around from one chair to the other not comfortable in one spot or position for more than 15 minutes.

Not yet. It’s tolerable most of the time, except when I’m moving around 🤣🤣. It’s that thick air that makes me feel like I’m swimming that gets me. One day, it actually cut off and I went to check the thermostat and it was on 70. Amazingly, it got things cool enough. It’s a weird setup, though. My thermostat is in the foyer, which is the coolest part of the lower level, as cool air comes down the steps from the working AC upstairs. The warmest part is the kitchen and hallway to the dining room (and the half bath off that hallway). I need to save up since my windfall went to pay for the tv. It was awful yesterday. I took some stuff out to the bins around 7 AM (between downpours) and it felt so glorious when I stepped back inside. And that rain! Holy crap! My sump pump was working overtime. But no power glitches. I think I may put a second surge protector on the equipment, just to be sure.
