I don't do the Tok, but there supposedly are many videos abounding on TikTok about Walmart customers being frustrated to 'discover' that they're being watched at the self-checkouts.
Like they're monitoring what you scan! Beware! Beware!
And how are these geniuses finding this out? It wouldn't be because they tried to get away without scanning an item, now would it? Nooooo. That's CAN'T be so!
Stupid ass mofo's. What's even better are the comments from people saying they're not going to shop there anymore. Sure you aren't. Now you're just going to have to pay for shit instead of stealing it.

So about that. I was in the self checkout at walfart a while back. Might've been in LBG, and since they had like 2 checkouts open and the lines were pretty long, I decided, against my faculties, to use their fucking self checkout. So I'm scanning my shit okay, and the red light comes on and the thing shuts down. A red screen PLEASE WAIT FOR ASSOCIATE and a message about it "appearing" as though I didn't scan something. Well, what it was is I had 2 identical items and scanned one of them twice and put the other in the bag. How do I know this? Because on the screen it showed a replay of what I did before alerting the thorities of my criminal activity. The scary part is that this is AI, not a person watching cameras. Welcome to the machine Mr. Orwell, the Terminator will be along shortly.
I will stand in line for a human person to process my order and if the lines are too long I will leave my cart right where it stands and too bad for failmart having to pay a human to re-shop it. Pisses me off.

I get being pissed off, but the people posting the Toks are the same ones who love the ones were people talk about how they rip off WM at the self checkout.
"Hey y'all" (Why most of them start this way is beyond me) "I found a way to hack the WM self checkout. I took this barcode sticker from a bag of chips and put it on this expensive item. And my item rang up at 50 cents! Woo-hoo!"
Hmmmm. Wonder why Wally World got the idea to install cameras and new technology at those checkouts? And I can't say which is worse - the technology, or these idiots on TikTok who want to brag about their 'badass' behavior all the time.
New favorite is the woman who did a Tok of her dishwasher overflowing while she was supposed to be in a business meeting and is shocked (shocked, I tell you, shocked!) to find out that she's being fired for it. I think I may trust the WM self-scan more than I trust these idiots!

Short story with no particular point:
I used to go to this place in NVA called The Vienna Inn. If you know the place can I get a hell yeah? It's basically an institution up there and to my knowledge is still operating. So anyway back in the day we'd hit them at lunchtime for a couple hot dogs and budweisers. There was no check. You walked up to the register, told them what you had, and that's what you paid. It was what used to be commonly referred to as "the honor system".
I always thought to myself that meant they wouldn't be in business long. That was 40 years ago.

I have no idea if the experience is the same as it was but if so, then everyone should go there at least once. The owner and his wife would run food around to the tables and if you were standing in their way, you were gonna get cussed teh fuck out. The old man especially, he was a hands full. I'll check into it with a friend I have in that area and maybe take a road trip. Haven't seen him in probably 40 years (since we were in high school) because he told me last time we caught up on facebook that we could meet up there if I was in the naybahuud.

That is a cool idea.
Backed a kickstarter campaign yesterday. One of the tiers was labeled 'community' - limited number of backers at less than 1/2 price for folks who wanted to back the project and get the item, but didn't have huge wads of cash to part with. It was nice to see that the 'standard' tier had way more backers than the community one (and the community one was still open). Made me think that there are still folks out there who believe in doing the right thing. (BTW, guy has a good track record with delivering the goods and the project is now fully funded so I felt it was worth the risk. I really try to do some research before I back things cause I've gotten screwed in the past).
