So we've just circled back to it being a gun problem?
I'm not trying to ride that narrative either.
I'd agree we have a problem that is more than one problem. More than two problems. More than a dozen problems. All that can and do lead to single acts such as mass shootings. As far as the Cruz kid, if he's not straight up psycho than I'll kiss your butt in the middle of "Emancipation" HWY at high noon on Monday.

I have been watching a lot of true crime crap recently (as my dish slowly dies, my tv menu decreases daily). I’m amazed at the number of cruel and dangerous people that exist. And I am realizing how lucky I am and why my mom was so terrified for me when we discovered my first husband was paranoid schizophrenic. His episode occurred during the Hinkley (I’m sure I butchered that spelling) trial, which mom was watching. My husband suffered so many of the same symptoms described at the trial. I was never afraid of him until the last day I saw him. He was a pretty big man, but he never exhibited any uncontrolled anger or violence. He was hearing voices, and I did find out that he abused the dogs (my poor Captain hated men after his abuse), but he never came at me. Until that last day.
I still wonder where he took Captain in the car and what he did to him. My neighbors said he tried to drown Bert with the garden hose. 😢😢

There are a lot of questionable folks roaming around. No matter what we do about them, at least it's relativley simple for people to arm themselves.
The Founders actually had a plan, it's in the Militia Acts. It wasn't "arm yourself to keep your neighbor polite", but that E pluribus shit is for suckers.

I refuse to arm myself. I cannot shoot another living being. And I’m such a klutz, I’d shoot myself. I’ll stick with my pepper spray gun. 🤣🤣

I don't think it's back around to 'Its only guns', just that these guys wouldn't have been helped if someone had only been kind or sent them to a therapist.
Both Adam Lanza and Nicholas Cruz are living examples of this - something was wrong with both of them from the start, and I don't know that there would have been anyone who could have removed their violent tendencies. In their cases, having easy access to guns was certainly a major factor in what they did., but not the only one.

Thank you. I made a comment on a thread or tok or somewhere a couple of weeks that said I could see both sides because I'm radical that way. Then I turned off the notifications for it so I didn't have to field the trolls' bullshit.
For the 100000000000th time, everything starts at birth with love, nurture, and all that shit. Then the 24/7/365 responsibility of PARENTING and that's where I say it starts with solving the "gun" problem. But in the peripheral it also goes a long way to solving other problems, like bullying, gang shit, alcohol and drug abuse, to name only a few. Common sense tells me that these things (behaviors) have profoundly more to do with gun violence than the gun (yes, the best tool for the job).

Agreed, John. I cannot imagine that there weren’t signs that these kids were spiraling.

Well, with Cruz, the signs were blazing neon lights. And numerous people tried to step in and help to no avail. And I can't remember, but I think Lanza had some form of autism. But both men were kids who were full of rage that didn't seem to be tied to their upbringing.
And other school shooters live on a steady diet of social media that says the world owes THEM, not the other way around. Read up on the incel movement -it's beyond terrifying.
But John, I do believe it begins with stability and love. Which means more support for parents and a wake-up call for everyone. We're not living in the 50s with Ozzie and Harriet. In today's world, most households require two working parents. Is that the norm we want to sustain? If so, then we need to heavily invest in schools and care centers so that parents have a safe environment for kids to be in while they're at work. And the people working in that environment need to be well-trained and well-paid.
And we need to do what we can to crack down on social media use among the young - it has a corrosive effect on everyone, but especially kids.
But again, I dream - this shit costs money and time, and who wants to contribute to YOUR fun?
