Space balloons? Really? They can’t shoot it down because of the impact of debris. WTF?
I remember when we had the Russian flyovers every so often. They were scheduled/expected as part of the nuclear agreement that Poopoo is no longer honoring.

Don't you think it's weird that anyone would think such a device wouldn't be easily detected?

Yeah, I'm wondering about the 'debris' thing myself. Sounds like it's a lot more than a 'spy balloon' up there.
But hey, MTG says shoot it down and do it fast. Do you think we could get the Chinese to send it over her house so we can shoot it down directly above it?

You would think they’d want to grab it to investigate further! I would. Everything I’m reading is “we don’t think” and “probably”. Um, let’s be sure okay? Once it gets out over the ocean, get the damn thing! There must be a ton of hardware underneath it. It’s huge! 2-3 buses.
Plus, there’s another one over Latin America, which China has been pushing big initiatives on.

China has spy satellites. So what can a balloon do that a spy satellite can't? Collect air samples, loiter? I'd wager we have a fair idea what it's watching for, and we're messing with it.

GOP says it is a bio weapon.

Because it would be so hard to ship some bioweapon here by any other, less conspicuous means. Like in the gazillion daily shipments of Chinese-made crap we bring here. Idiots.
Those people aren't living in the real world.

MTG should have one of her Jewish buddies shoot it down with one of their space lasers!

If they wanted it down it would be down already. I'd even bet a thumb that they can get it down without "debris".
Unless Xi told Brandon it has a self destruct mechanism.

I predicted they’d shoot it down over the Atlantic. I told a Facebook friend. I wonder if they were listening? The building where I worked didn’t have the technology that prevented eavesdropping so we were constantly schooled about where we were when discussing secrets. But at 50000 feet, can you hear anything? Do cell signals reach that far?
I hope they are able to gather the debris to determine what’s going on.
What did Xi expect us to do? How can they be angry when they were in the wrong? (Plus, if they’re pissed, does that mean they didn’t get everything they wanted from it and needed it back to retrieve it?)

Apparently the Chinese floated balloons over us three times while that shitbag was in the White House. But you know, nothing could be done, since Ivanka had all those Chinese patents.

Deliberately shot down in 45 feet of water to make it easier to retrieve it's components. And since we let it float lazily across the country, I suspect the military had a method to block the signals it was sending back. Otherwise some farmer would have found 10 tons of debris in the corn field one fine morning.
And the Republicans would like nothing better for most of us to forget Trump's presidency. Would make life more convenient for them for sure.

What really worries me is how many of these we missed. We missed the 3 recent incursions before this one but there has to be others! And HOW did we miss them? And, if they aren’t detected by radar, how did we catch this one? They say they detected it before it entered Alaskan air space - how? Answers, please. But don’t tell the PRC. 🤣🤣🤣 I can keep a secret. 🤪🤪

I'm wondering if the directional equipment in this balloon broke, and the Chinese couldn't control it any longer, so decided to let it drift and see what happened. Because it certainly seemed strange that it kind of just drifted across the country fairly aimlessly.
OTOH, I guess the Chinese are a little shocked that the Biden administration very clearly said they were leaving it up until it was over an unpopulated area, and then cancelled the SOSs trip to Bejing in retaliation for the balloon. And they're even more shocked that we shot it down in a manner that will allow us to recover the majority of it's equipment.
Holy Crap - America may becoming competent again!

I wonder how long they take to float over. Like, were these second and third released after the first was shot down, or had they already been launched by then?

To date only one person, group, organization, etc has claimed ownership of a thingy being shot down. Last I read that group, something in the environmental sciences IIRC said they "feared it had been shot down", and not an actual confirmation. So if there are several more out there, yet unidentified, what were they and who did they belong to?
I think if we're using sidewinder missiles shot from US aircraft, we kinda deserve to know.

Didn’t Biden say they were scientific and were being used for research? There are untold numbers of these type of airborne things above us. Evidently, they aren’t worth watching because we aren’t anymore.

Spouse said that it wasn't them being shot down that concerned him, but that they shot at one and MISSED.
You're a highly trained fighter pilot using a sidewinder missile - a highly sophisticated weapon - shooting a large object almost directly in front of you at close range. AND YOU MISS THE TARGET?
He personally thinks that this is what should be freaking us all out.
