The Republicans are about to show how spineless they are by voting an election denier who wants to shut down the government completely into the speaker's seat.
Mind you, there was a large amount (I believe at least 55) congress members who said they wouldn't vote for him, but the MAGAs are threatening them into compliance. And heaven forbid, they lose their cushy house seat because they took a stand!
Maybe we should start a new acronym PINO - Patriots in Name Only

Like I said before there's only a half a dozen people that would want that position and they are the half dozen least qualified in all of congress to hold it. The good news if there is any in all of this is that if any of that half dozen gets the nod, the house might very well flip back to blue next year.

Yeah my expectations are low but my hopes are high. Decency and integrity should mean the same things to everyone but I concede that's not at all the case and it might get worse before it gets better. All we can do is try to do what's right for our families, communities, and country by showing up and voting something we used to call our conscience, when more of us actually had one.

I know, but it seems that morons are at an all time high.
And Mr. Grilled Cheese is trying to get in on a write-in vote. Lord save us.

I’m so thankful for the 20 GOPers that voted against the “shouty, half-dressed” (thanks, Jeff) sexual-predator-ignoring insurrectionist! And now he has delayed any more votes until tomorrow so he can twist some more arms. All we need are 5 sane republicans to vote for Jeffries. But that’s too much to hope for.

Our government has failed us and there's no better example than the fact that this fucker is even remotely being considered for the chair, let alone keeping the one he has. Going on 2 years he's been ignoring a subpeona and is, despite a grand total of ZERO proof, a fluffer for the big lie.
Santos is another one. You've got liars like MTG et al, frauds like Boebert, and miscreants like Gaetz, but all of them together are but a pimple on the ass of Santos. Why are known and proven law breakers allowed to continue hold their office? In a good and honorable government of the people they would be out on their ass and behind bars.

When the dem that nominated Jeffries mentioned that Gym had not passed one bill into law, Boobert and sexual predator Gaetz cheered! If that doesn’t tell you their goal, nothing will.

Oh we all know his goal - to completely paralyze the government until he and his cronies get their way. And their way is a dictatorship, where they make the rules.

The talking point about Jordan not passing a law is a red herring and hopefully we all understand why.
Snopes and politifact is there for you if you don't.

When I started with headlines early this afternoon, I could smile because Gym agreed to visit giving McHenry more powers and the batshit crazy lawyer Sydney Powell has turned and will testify in GA. But then Gym reneged. Asshole.

McHenry has repeatedly said he doesn't want more powers - he wants them to elect a speaker. And I never seriously believed that Jordan was taking his name down.
We'll see what Powell says. I'm not thrilled with the plea - she was one of the chief spreaders of the Big Lie and should have gotten a harsher punishment.

As for Powell the plea was in exchange for testimony so I can't imagine that working out well for anyone except the prosecutors.

So Kevin Hern has thrown his hat into the ring. Looks like the only thing different is that he didn't openly support insurrection and sexual abuse. Other than that, his campaign page lists all of his 'promises kept' from the Trump playbook.
But since he doesn't have the extra baggage that Scalise and Jordan do, I suspect he gets it on the first vote.

There’s also Tom Emmer (who struggled as Whip to count votes), Jack Bergman, Pete Sessions and Austin Scott. And probably others will come forward. “A speaker for you, a speaker for you! Everyone gets a speaker!”, to paraphrase Oprah.
What really burns me is that they’ve adjourned until Monday evening! Since when does Congress work on a 3 day week (McCarthy seemed to use that schedule before he was ousted). In my opinion, they should stay there until they find a leader. Holy shit! The world is burning up around them and they just lackadaisically go home as if there’s no rush.

I don't see what all the squealing is about. There IS a speaker and there's zero impact from a critical legislative standpoint, regarding the speakers pro tempe status. That's not to say the minority party in the house can't use the quasi vacancy as cannon fodder against the Rs, they can, and they should, because everything is political and it's like those tickets you get from the skeet ball machines at chuck e cheese. You find a game you're good at, amass garbage bags full of them and redeem at the counter for a pencil set.

The Speaker pro tempe cannot bring legislation to a vote, which is why things are at a stand still.
I am hoping and praying that the Dems are using this debacle to quietly craft a shit ton of legislation, starting with properly funding the government that they can introduce the moment the new speaker picks up that gavel. So that they can truly be the "adults in the room". While they were quarrelling like preschoolers, we were working to get the government moving to help the regular person.
I can hope, right?

99% of what they do is in the committees and since the Rs are the majority, what critical legislation other than the 9000th vote to raise the debt ceiling are we worried about? I'm not at all hyperventilated over this and in fact I find some satisfaction watching them embarrass the living shit out of themselves as they burn their party to the ground. It's been a long time coming.

It has been a long time coming, but at the same time once they put some icing on the shit cake for the time being, the Democrats need to have a plan to show that they're capable of actually leading the country. Cause right now, there are a lot of people who are blaming both sides for this with the whole 'One side is just as bad as the other' line.
So the Dems need to use this time to take advantage and position themselves for 2024, otherwise we're all going to be burning.

So on the last vote for Jethro (the one when he finally had to withdraw), there were 112 votes against him in a secret ballot.
Pretty sad that only 22 were willing to go on the record against him. Even sadder that those people were subject to death threats against themselves and their families thanks to the 'Freedom Caucus' and the thugs who follow them blindly.
