So Youngkin is threatening to veto the entire state budget because he's not getting what he wanted.
He claims it's his income tax cut for businesses, but let's get real - it's the GlennDome at Potomac Yards.
So we're running the risk of not having a budget to fund state services because an asshole wants a new stadium. Let's overlook the following: 1) The moment Leonsis realized that Louise Lucas was going to table the funding bill, he ran straight to MD to see if THEY might be willing to build one for him. 2) DC says that in exchange for the last refurbishing money they gave Monumental sports in 2007, they agreed that the Caps and Wizards would stay in DC until 2047.
So the winds say a lawsuit is a-coming. And I'd bet all ma chips on a judge saying the teams need to stay right where they are until the suit is settled. But yeah, let's put VA taxpayers on the hook now so Glenn has his 'legacy'.
In other budget news, it just came out that the ABC commission lost huge buck-a-roos last year despite Youngkin's rosy forecast for alcohol sales. Sales increased by 1.2% last year, but Glenn said they'd increase by 5% this upcoming fiscal year.
Can we all agree that the man is not only an asshole, but incompetent at running a business (since like Trump, his platform was running government like a business - it would be efficient and would make money for the taxpayers)?

Vetoing the budget means he's willing to hand the job to Spanberger. Don't get me started about this dumb shit where something is said to have lost money because it didn't make as much profit as expected. Isn't ABC one of the sole government entities that operates solely on it's own funding through sales, always turns a profit, and contributes stupid high tax revenues back to the state? Who was the last gov that threatened to shut down the vabc?

My bad - they did make a profit (for the 25th year in a row), but it was 1.2% not the 5% Youngkin and his cronies predicted. Not as high as FY 2020 and 2021. Hmmmm. Wonder what happened in that time frame to make alcohol consumption jump to record highs?
I suspect Youngkin is going to try and bring the stadium to a stand-alone vote. I hope the Dems stand strong, and enough Rs in districts outside of NOVA stand with them.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals are staying in the District of Columbia for the long term after a plan to lure the teams to Virginia imploded and ownership and the city reached an agreement on a $515 million, publicly funded arena project.

I laughed way to hard when I saw that - you know Glenn is crying huge tears of sorrow at the 'opportunity we missed'. Yeah, I so wanted the opportunity to go into debt for a millionaire.
I do wonder if this was Ted's plan all along - he knew the area wasn't great for a stadium, but he could use it to put leverage on DC to give him his money.
