Friend needs a bathroom installed in her basement. Toilet, sink and shower. She has been calling people until she is blue in the face and most either don't call back or give her an estimate (which to her is a reasonable price) and then ghost her when she calls to schedule.
Anyone know of a decent contractor out there? She has 4 adults and 3 kids fighting over the same bathroom and wants a second one for her own sanity.

No. I've had 3 people over here now to give us estimates/quotes on widening the master bedroom and master bathroom doors, and a complete remodel of the master bathroom. First asshole comes over here for like 3 hours and has all these samples and cutaway models of their (West Shore) materials and even a tube of the "proprietary" adhesive caulk they use............. $15,000 for just the shower. Do I need to put a LOL emoji on here or ?
Second guy came out, took measurements, talked for a few minutes about the actual whole job (West Shore only does showers and baths, and windows and doors, idiots) but we never heard another thing from him.
The last one gave is a price to do the whole shooting match, and was within our budget. Within 24 hours he wanted 10% down, another 15% when they have the design ready, another 25% on demo..... like 5 or 6 payments in all. However, there was no breakdown in cost between materials and labor. He said we'd have an "allowance" for the materials but wouldn't tell me what that allowance would be. I've got a material list I've been putting together for a few days and I'm up to about $6000 and still need to add flooring, trim, and paint. Well, what if his allowance is $4000? Change order, right? So I said I'd need at least a breakdown of the materials, labor, and other charges like permit fees. Guess what he replies? Permit fees aren't included. Oh, so we haven't even signed the proposal and you already have a NIC? Buh. Bye.
Starting to look a lot like another DIY.
Good luck and if she finds anyone worthy of referring, let me know.

I will. It's frustrating as hell for sure. She had an easier time finding someone to do work during COVID, and those guys were booked solid then.

She just needs to be patient and very careful not to hire a shitbag.

Before her spouse lost his ever-loving mind and left her, she ran his contracting business, so she knows what to look for. It's just finding anyone even willing to come do a damn estimate at this point.
