Young couple in upstate NY shot in their driveway multiple times.
Neighbors report seeing a pickup truck in the driveway as the husband comes home. Husband goes up to pickup, looks like he's talking to someone and BLAMMO!
Girlfriend pulls up a minute after the gunshots and is also shot.
Police focus in on guy's ex-wife. She lost her 2 kids to him in a custody suit filed after her new husband was caught on tape smacking their 3 year old around.
Wife files for divorce. Husband wants her back.
So husband rents a car under a friend's name to drive to upstate NY from TX to do the deed.
He's in Kansas and wrecks the car doing an illegal U-turn.
Cop stops and starts talking to him. This dude sits and does everything but say he's off to kill his ex-wife's boyfriend.
Cop doesn't have anything to hold him, but strikes up a 10 minute conversation with this dude and lets him contradict himself all over the place.
Cop was smart enough to check the car, but the weapons he had were all legal, and they had nothing to charge him with.
But they kept the body cam footage around for a bit, cause the whole thing was weird.
Meanwhile, dude tries to rent another car using cash. No go.
So he has the wife come up to Kansas to rent a new car.
Guy at the tow yard notes that the rental car has a bunch of ammo and an AR-15 style rifle. Dude says he's going hunting - police know all about it.
Guess who got arrested and is in jail for life? Both of them!
The dude who rented the original car was arrested too, but got a lighter sentence.
