DA has already heard a bit about this adventure. We took a trip to the western part of the state on Saturday and hit 12 different airports. The Right Reverend Dr. Jerry Falwell Holy Shout And Praise Airport was kind of like a ski slope. The Grundy Airport was like someone sliced off the top of a mountain and stuck a strip of asphalt on it. When I saw it from the air I wasn't too hot on landing there but Rick is like "Oh, it's about the same length as Hummel Field......it will be fine". If you come in too low there is a wall of rock waiting for you. If you overshoot the runway you go off the side of the mountain. Then there were the deer........we now have a flat spot on two tires from Rick locking up the brakes trying to avoid hitting them when they ran in front of the plane. Unfortunately, I was using just my cell phone camera. At the very beginning you can see the wall off rock as we approach. At the 35 second point you can see the deer off to the right headed towards the plane. In the second segment we travel to the end of the runway for takeoff and you can see where it drops off. The third segment is when we take off. I swear I heard banjo music there! Sorry for the poor quality.

Well, Jerry is dead so I guess he doesn't have an airport. If I understood correctly, Calvin and Lawrence Falwell founded Falwell Aviation aka Freedom Aviation which was acquired by Liberty University. Liberty University actually owns it but it is a public use airport.

Nice landing! I have a frend from Nepal, so he's been to that crazy airport they have (I'll find the name later). So did he actually take off and land there? My most concerning trip was taking a float plane to Misty Fjord in Alaska. The plane drops down inside the Fjord......flies along surrounded by rock and lands on the water. The flight was rough......everyone behind me had their heads in a bag. Several months after our trip one of their planes flew into the side of the cliff. I would consider doing it again though...........it was beautiful. I hated landing on the grass strip in VA Beach at the Military Aviation Museum......HELL NAW! NEVER again!

What, that grass loks so smoooooooth!
Yeah, he's been in and out of that strip. I like how the far (on approach) end is a cliff face. Better not need any extra room!
