The Dutch are developing a small roof(or pole) mounted spiral unit that looks promising. Named the F1, it is silent and efficient. I checked it out a little bit. Not available in the Corporate States yet, but by 2016 should be. The output is 1500 kwhr per year, which would probably provide you with hot water and maybe a well pump, and that ain't bad. Unit costs look like about 5500$, payback should be about 5 years, not too bad. I'd like to see the energy tax incentives like we had on energy rated heating and stuff.

Those are right sexy.
Materials may be important. We put wind turbines in Alaska, and the porcupines climbed the poles to eat the aluminum blades. Apparently they have some deficiency. Either that, or just stupid critters.
