Hmmm. I read the Washington Post article, and saw nothing about the layoffs being based on performance. More like a cost-cutting measure, or being completely cynical here a way of showing people like you that they "mean business". Seeing as Metro employs over 13,000 workers, 500 jobs is a drop in the bucket to upper management, but makes you feel good.
I feel sorry for the people who are going to be the scapegoats and lose their jobs. I also feel sorry for the people who remain who have a specific skill set that doesn't transfer well to another career (only so many places need drivers for subway cars for example) - I bet a lot of Metro employees would leave tomorrow if they could - morale can't be too great there.

In other news, markets lost trillions of dollars of worth over the last few days, but a demented mangoman can make a few dollars off that. Woohoo, USA USA USA!

It Is a financial move,,,,,they can't afford the dead weight...this happened to the rest of the country in 2008-10....except the feds... A lot of lower workers and management people. That means the ones left will have to get up off their ass and do something. If that guy is worth a damn, the Metro will be a lot safer and run more efficiently in the next 5 yrs...
