The actions of the initiator matter most. Visible weapon probably helps, too, though I did hear the officer say something about a concealed permit. But the officer could easily have escalated that encounter.

Seemed like a great example of a black guy not getting shot to death because he was a black, a MWAG, or BMWAG. Or was it because he was in the wrong to begin with (even minor traffic infractions), cooperated, and acted gentlemanly and peaceably? Something tells me that matters, at least most of the time.
As for 5-0, he did everything right in this instance IMIUO. Even the 2nd officer on scene didn't step in to go all Sgt Fury and in fact, looked rather relaxed and casual. Those were good cops and I give them credit for a job well done. Even only gave brothaman a warning. Not sure I've ever gotten one of those from a road pirate.

That's what happens when the Authority doesn't escalate the situation. He could as easily have shot him down in the first moments, because gun. So kudos to that cop for being basically professional. It should never be too much to ask for.
