No, they are going to have to be registered, but the latest rule APPEARS to be that you can't fly them within 5 miles from a major airport without contacting the airport and letting them know. Soooo... I looked at my home town and it doesn't have a major airport, but a neighboring city, Findlay, Oh is within 5 miles of its airport for almost its entire area. Can you imagine handling phones on Christmas morning as 100's of kids and adults in that city get one of those quad-copters and have to phone the airport before they can take it for a spin over the house? Its not a ban, but its effectively so burdensome that you risk jail if you don't go by the exact letter of the law. National Parks - 6 months in jail for flying one there. All those battlefields - National Park Service, although I'm unclear whether flying a sUAV would be illegal there or not, I don't think those are actually National Parks. Chatham Manor is also NPS. Lots of NPS around. www.provideocoalition.com/drone-law-update-faaArticle says to keep calm, but I don't see a good reason to, other than the fact that I have no plans to buy a drone anyway.

Drone "no fly" National interactive map. F'burg is a patchwork, good luck not getting fined and staying out of jail, since they are National Park Service (6 months in jail...) Yeah, it appears all the battlefields and Chatham are no-fly zones for drones. Might as well set bear traps in the sky for those that want to have fun flying drones...

Well, I don't see how they're going to prove you were flying one unless you lose the drone in restricted airspace and go to retrieve it - not like you have to register them.

Yes, registering is amongst the new rule proposals. Probably be in effect before Christmas. My question is whether you're going to have to slap registration numbers on it like on a regular plane with a "tail number" so's the powers that be can take a picture of it, look at the numbers, and trace it to you. This is too much gov't for me, in case you hadn't guessed... <G>
