I guess the mom was too shocked to call 911, and instinctively jumped in to try and protect her kids. Just tragic all around. I disagree with you on capital punishment - send him into the general population with an announcement about what he did - it will save us all time and money in the long run...

I think it's cowardly to leave justice up to inmates. And it sounds like something a movie might be based on.

It is cowardly on our part, but you do know that the bastard would get what's coming to him in a way that he deserved.
You are right though - it's cruel to the inmates to have to deal with scum like him.

Should it be the state's job, though? Revenge is an emotional act, and can really only be had by those who are directly harmed by this incident. The family members should be the ones to both decide and carry out that kind of thing. I want my government to be above human emotion and act rationally, but I don't require that same standard from victims. At least, I don't think I don't. Maybe.
