On the surface, it seems great - we'll send you a "Hello Fresh" box each month. Of course, if you're diabetic, on a low-sodium diet, have food allergies, are vegetarian, ect, I'm sure it will work for you too! And of course, since you're poor, and aren't deserving, you can't choose what food is best for you and your family each week, so no splurges like a bag of chips, or a cake for the kid's birthday. Those are reserved for those who have money, and since you don't, you're total shit. Rather than taking a "food stamp challenge" where you try to eat on what the average person gets from SNAP, I'd like to see these buffoons take the "Poverty challenge", where they have to live in 'regular' housing (rather than section 8) in a poor community, try and find a job and reliable transportation, take care of kids and medical needs, and eat on a SNAP budget for 2 months. Something tells me they'd be crying for mercy in 2 days. Friend is in Section 8 in SC. She finally got a FT job at WalMart, after 3 years of juggling several PT jobs to make the bills. Three kids, and the oldest (16) has a lot of behavioral issues. She spends her life, working, trying to get the eldest to appointments and fending off the school, scrubbing the crappy apartment they have (1 bedroom for 4 people) so that it can pass any 'surprise' inspections (cause in section 8, the landlord can inspect at any time for any reason without giving you any notice), and trying to give some attention to the youngest two. Things have finally come to a head - eldest ran away and while she is back, is in mandatory counseling. She resents this, and told the counselor that she lived in a shithole and her mother neglected the family. So CPS was called in, and she's dealing with that, and has a hearing this week to prove that she's doing a good job as a parent. Meanwhile, eldest has gotten kicked off the school bus, and expelled from school due to her behavior. Mom is trying to get her into a residential treatment place so she can perhaps get helped. Oh yeah, she just got promoted (yay!) and has to tell her brand-new boss that she needs time off to take care of this shit. As we all know, WallyWorld is noted for their compassion. It would be great if her ex was there to help out, but after leaving her, he moved out of state to live with his new family, and gets paid under the table so he doesn't have to give her child support. Clearly she's in this situation because of her 'poor' choices, cause we all choose to marry people because we know that they're totally shitheels who will leave us after 11 years of marriage

And think... she's one of the lucky ones. The waiting list for housing vouchers is closed in VA and many other states. From what I've read, the waiting lists close when people are on it for over 2 years.
It's too bad the child can't act right, understanding that her actions directly affect her whole family's well being.

Oh, she knows she's lucky, and lives in constant fear of being evicted. She failed one 'health' inspection because her daughter left some dirty laundry on the floor, and the cabinets below the sink weren't 'properly' scrubbed clean. Meanwhile the drug addict living next door (who pays full rent) gets a free pass and no inspections. Her daughter is mentally ill - unfortunately Medicaid only pays so much, and they're having a hard time finding a psychiatrist who takes it so she can be properly diagnosed. Mom is stressed to the max, and kid is completely out of control - from the way mom described her, she sounds like she's bi-polar level 1 - one day she's great, and the next she's wild and out of control On the food box thing, what made me sad was the amount of people commenting that these people should be happy we're feeding them at all. What kind of a country are we?

We are a mean country that wants everyone to shut up and die.

Not true - if you have the big bux, you should live free and prosper.

What kind of a country are we? You want a thesis or just the summary?

Even the summary would come to several pages of nothing but profanity.
