First I started going nearsighted. Then they said I had 'low-pressure' glaucoma (your eye pressure don't go up, but you have the other symptoms) Now I have cataracts and will probably need surgery sometime next year.
My refrigerator and oven died, the heat pump is on the fritz, and we need a new roof.
It sucks getting old....

Is that lasek surgery used for that? Can't help with your symptoms, how about the stove and refrig? sometimes they are doable, what are the symptoms there?

I think the stove just needs a new circuit board (hopefully!), but the freezer part of the fridge died, and I think it may have to go. Pisses me off too, because the fridge that came with the house is still downstairs and running fine (we re-did the kitchen about 12 yrs ago and got a fancy new one). While water on the door is cool and all that, I'm thinking that we just need to haul this piece of crap to the dump, and move the original fridge back upstairs.
I don't know how they do cataract surgery - I just know they take out the original lens in your eye, and put a new one in.

I have cataracts, too, minx. Mine aren’t so bad that they are affecting my vision yet, though. I’m looking forward to the surgery, though as I hope to get the lenses that will correct my vision. I’m nearly blind without my contacts.

Yes. My ophthalmologist told me about them. All of the lenses work that way for a short time. My mom didn’t need her glasses for a day or so until the lenses adapted to her eye shape. But, now they are able to combat that adaptation. But, he cautioned me that these newer lenses aren’t covered by all health insurance policies. You may have to pay more out-of-pocket. To me, it’s worth it! I’ve been blind since I was 12.

I can’t have lasik. Lupus patients can’t have it. I don’t feel comfortable with it anyway. I’ve seen too many horrors from it. Plus some people that I know that have had it recently were back in glasses within 5 years.

You might want to check the condensing coils on the fridge. If it's been there 5 years or more, they can collect dust and not transfer heat as well as it should. Depending on make they are either on the back or under the unit next to the floor. Use some compressed air and some gentle use of a vacuum leaner brush to clean them. It is amazing how this can help. Circuit boards aren't hard to replace, delegate that to husband. Depending on how you feel, you may suggest he unplug it first. Your choice.

LOL! Sadly we have checked the condensing coils on the fridge - Mr. Minx even looked up the manual online and went through the troubleshooting steps - no luck. So I think the fridge is indeed dead, and will be replaced by something that has the following qualities - fits in the hole left by the old one, has no fancy gadgets, and is cheap Oven is a circuit board, so I just have to sit on Mr. Minx to order it, then the elder spawn can install - it's good for children to learn life skills, and I didn't go through 9 months of pregnancy, let alone childbirth to do my own lawn care and home maintenance. Heat pump was a short in a wire, so (relatively speaking) a cheap repair. The one I've been putting off is the roof - need to start calling places for estimates this upcoming week. And Pam, I don't like the thought of anyone coming near my eyes, so I've never been really interested in Lasik. I asked about 10 years ago, and the response I got was "We should be able to get you out of glasses". Ain't no way someone's doing that if they can't 100% guarantee that I'll be glasses-free! Now I have astigmatism, and my current ophthalmologist said that if I really wanted lasik, it could be done, but what they would do is correct one eye for nearsightedness and one for far. Um, no.

If your fridge is still cold it's probably nothing major.

Minx, my eyes have aged to where now one is newr and one is far sighted. And I need reading glasses. Annoying AF. If I were to get lase, I'd say "make them where I only need single vision lenses".

John, thanks for the info - the fridge no longer cools either - we thought it was, but it was actually the remnants of the dying freezer. We're thinking of moving the old fridge back upstairs, and looking for a small freezer for the basement - the biggest issue with the old fridge is that it has a small freezer, so really what we need is more freezer space.
We shall see. Since the old fridge is still running well, we have some time.
The oven needs a sensor, so that will be ordered today.
