we could feed the world, lead in eliminating thirst and famine, eliminate a lot of conflict, but we choose a darker path. We are all guilty by our acquiescence. One day the world will view us as not relevant, and also a liability.

I will give him his due that for the most part, he has not been a huge fan of defense spending. Unfortunately, his colleagues do not feel the same way. I think that it was a legitimate follow-up question on Blitzers' part, even if it was badly worded. What he should have said is that Paul's colleagues feel that without the sale of arms to our allies like Saudi Arabia, defense contractors will lose revenue, and put American jobs at risk - what would he say to convince them that we are going down the wrong path? I will say that Paul had been against invading Iraq from the start, and feels we should pull out of there. What I don't hear from Paul (or any politician for that matter) is any type of coherent plan for trying to re-build/re-stabilize that region. To be honest, I don't even think it can be done anymore But you are right Larry - we are complicit in all sorts of famine, war and poverty by our very policies. What people don't realize is that we chose that darker path long ago when we took it upon ourselves to rid the world of the communist threat by propping up tin-can dictators all around the world. Now the chickens are coming home to roost, and it's not pretty.

I don't think that if there were an actual discussion, "we" would not choose war as "our" only pursuit. It is formulated and imposed on us by invisible forces and executed by the very people we "choose" to represent us. Been that way since 1913. Now we are being sucked into a war in Iran, possibly including Russia for reasons we don't comprehend by a supposed ally. Again, just like we were sucked into Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, and now most of Africa. And yes, the chickens will come home, and it will be very ugly. What is so depressing is that we can't do a single thing about it, and neither can anyone we are permitted to vote for.
Remember the 5 rules of propaganda Here are the five rules of public relations a.k.a propaganda: (Josef Goebbels' trademark).
Keep the message simple Make it emotional Don’t allow nuances or debates Demonize the opposition Keep repeating the message

1913? It's been that way for centuries. The Brits taught us how to war for profit.

I would have to see the whole unedited interview to be sure of what I'm watching there because it looks like a propaganda piece to me. Ironic isn't it?
