Latest I've heard is that Trump has tariffed or is about to tariff China for $500B. And, of course the usual leftist bedwetters and handwringers are having a cow about all the increased taxes on the American people. Well... hello... what have the same bunch been telling us since the tax cuts took effect, that they want to raise taxes instead, and the budget deficit is too high, etc.? Well, what will $500B in tariffs do for the budget deficit? Will in knock it down by $500B? Why yes... yes it will... And the left complains about this? I'd ask that they make up their mind, but that would suppose they were actually using it instead of simply reacting emotionally, which is probably again the case.
And of course we're all broke up because the Chinese may tariff some of our stuff... but wait. First, there's their stuff. Do we NEED their stuff? I mean, we need food, shelter, and clothing. Are we buying that stuff from them? Well.. not food, we grow our own. Shelter requires fuel to heat and cool, and fuel is required to grow and move our food, but we're not getting those things from then either. We're getting some cheap jeans, but so what? We can get jeans somewhere else, maybe even make them ourselves.
But let them tariff our soy beans. The think they're going to get that many million tons of soy beans somewhere else? No, they're not. Not sure about the rest of the necessaries, but they need us way more than we need them, at least with food.
Sooo... let the trade war begin. Stuff they make? Electronics? I don't need a new computer or phone for a while, so won't much be noticing the change.

Sure, it’ll be all sweetness and flowers. Dear Leader never makes a mistake.
I hope the rising prices hammer the fuck out of you. You deserve it, Kool-Aid.

Those taxes can't hammer ANYBODY because, you see, they're consumption taxes, just like the FairTax. If someone can't afford the tax, he just doesn't buy whateveritis. Problem solved. Not like the gov't showing up and stealing your money with an income tax, you can avoid this because, as I pointed out, they're not making anything we NEED - not food, water, shelter, clothing - yeah, as I said, cheap jeans, but nobody's gonna "hammer" me with jeans, which I buy once maybe every 18 months to 3 years.

So, how are things going for Whirlpool, big supporter of tariffs? Are you up on that? Check, I'll wait.
Okay, not so good, are they?
Well, how about the farms' and their lost profits? GUESS WHAT, THEY ARE SAVED! Because now Trump wants to put them on the dole for more corporate welfare.
This is the best trade war, evar! It costs consumers more, it diminishes capacity, AND costs taxpayers more! What's not to love?
PS Gosh, I guess that last one DOES hit your pocketbook after all. GARE ON TEED, that will never happen again.

Grammar lesson time:
What is a synonym for adversary? A synonym is "a word with the same meaning", rally.
Any guesses? Bueller?
Of course, "adversary" means the same as "enemy".

they're not making anything we NEED Are you sure? Because while we may grow the food, I find myself wondering about things like where the packaging for the food comes from, and the parts that would be needed if a machine broke. Yes, yes, I know - all those manufacturing jobs are going to come back. Somehow I doubt the crops are going to patiently stay fresh while the farmers are waiting for those parts to be made here. Like it or not, we live in a global economy - yes, we need to levy tariffs, but we also need to make sure that we're not shooting ourselves in the foot by doing so.

Trump's theory seems to be "Hulk smash!". Every day we see the unintended consequences of poorly pondered aggressive actions. Some of which are easily predictable.

Like it or not, we live in a global economy - yes, we need to levy tariffs, but we also need to make sure that we're not shooting ourselves in the foot by doing so. Its a tariff, not an embargo. If your crops need a tractor part, you simply pay the price plus the tariff, and fix your tractor. Tariffs have more significant impact for things that are bought in huge quantities, like iron ore, processed steel, aluminum, soy beans, etc. They hurt when they are 25 cents per ton when you are moving millions of tons of something. Just for the record, I think that Trump is stirring this pot in an effort to get to a zero-tariffs-for-everything state where the US competes heads-up with the rest of the world. We can win that battle, we have more natural resources, more workers, cheaper fuels, etc. We can be the center of world manufacturing, which is Trump's goal, if we can get zero tariffs across the board.

This. Country. Was. Founded. On. Globalism. You. Airhead. It. Makes. Us. All. Wealthier.
Also, "globalist" is a sloppy bigot's way of spelling "THE JOOS!". But we know, you mean "Them".

This. Country. Was. Founded. On. Globalism. You. Airhead. It. Makes. Us. All. Wealthier. No. It. Does. Not. It has pauperized many factory workers whose good-paying factory jobs were shipped out of the country. These people like to work with their hands, are good at working with their hands, and _need_ factory jobs in order to be prosperous. They don't do well nor desire to feed urine samples into some computerized machine in a med lab somewhere nor stock shelves in a Walmart or Meyers. That has been our problem for the last 30 years and accounts for the working class wage stagnation during that time. Those people good at working with their hands, after losing their jobs, have sometimes even taken to the couch, sit and watched the soap operas, and lived on the wages of a spouse. Great underutilization of the American workforce is the result of "globalization." This is what Trump is turning around, and bringing back for a group of workers that will once again prosper and contribute to the economy with purchasing power and taxes. I have no knowledge of the religion of the Koch's. Really. I never gave it a thought. The globalists are people that work against the American worker to get rich from shipping jobs to countries with less corporate income taxes that therefore make stuff cheaper while they control the companies and get rich while American workers starve. I don't think they adhere to any particular religion, they are just the dark side of capitalism that has been allowed to flourish via complicit politicians that have been paid off in campaign funding or outright bribes. Trump is battling them to the death, and they will die, not Trump.

Weird that those factory owners didn't suffer while their employees were pauperized. Almost like they were in on the plan. Hunh.
I wish that one day, rally meets the real world. Because willfull ignorance like his should HURT.

Weird that those factory owners didn't suffer while their employees were pauperized. Almost like they were in on the plan. Hunh. I wish that one day, rally meets the real world. Because willfull ignorance like his should HURT. Those factory owners did suffer - they went out of business, a lot of them, 'cuz their products were undercut by the large multinationals. That's the damned globalists. The factory owners, being business people, did _not_ work with their hands, and could find something else to do that was similarly monetarily rewarding. The factory _workers_ were the ones screwed, because they were not as versatile, requiring manual labor in order to excel at what they did. So the factory owners suffered in having to find another job, which may or may not have been immediate, with the interim period of unemployment worthy of being deemed "suffering." The factory workers, of course, suffered for a lot longer. And again, Trump is struggling to put a stop to all Americans' suffering. He's succeeding.

Trump is struggling to distract you from his corruption. Well, not you, personally, Kool-Aid, but the rest of us.
Pretty much all products are global products now, almost without exception.
And Prednisent Dickweed is not having any success with his "be a dick" plan - hell the DPRK is working on new missiles. Iran rejected his graceful attempt at reconciliation after being a dick. His campaign chief is now on trial (after what, 5, of his associate plead guilty?). And really, the list of BS and lies is so long, I wouldn't have time to read your blathering stories. So yeah, way sick of winning.
And Trump's whining, gotDAMN I never heard such a whiny codger. Boohoo, not everyone kisses my ass. Christ.

Interesting that Trump is going to turn this all around, yet Coke, and Kimberly-Clark are already raising prices on their products now, in anticipation of the price of materials going up due to tariffs. Somehow, I get a feeling that paper products and the price of soda won't go back down if we (the US) starts suddenly starts producing cheap aluminum and paper pulp within 6 months.
Oh, and the farmers? Last I read, most of them had a locked contract for this year's crop, so they're good. However, they're sitting around watching China talk to all the other countries about *their* soybean prices. Again, I have this strange feeling that if another country can provide soybeans, we (the US) will once again be screwed.

I have no doubt that, just like dodging the draft, Dear Leader has no issue being a spectator to the sacrifice and suffering of his own countrymen, although he'll certainly present himself as having some association or affection like he did with STDs.
I've always said the US needed to address the trade deficit, especially with China, and take steps toward balancing out the Walmart economy. Balance would be nice at this point since we have moved heavily to the side of cheap imported goods made by workers overseas with no labor laws, no environmental protections, etc. but the goal should be to tip the scales back in our favor. While I think this particular occupant of the Oval Office was right in confronting the issue, he continues to approach it with ham hands, where diplomacy, patience, and nuance would have done just fine. That's what you get when you put someone in office that expects the world to bow at his feet. The farmers and big business folks alike knew what they voted for. So you get what we have here today, which is how he wantsit, well, he getsit.

Yeah, we did need to make some changes, but this approach is pretty much like the dude who tried to use a propane torch to kill a spider and ended up burning down his house.
But we don't have to worry too much about tariffs, because Trump is going to level the playing field by removing all those pesky regulations that gave us things like clean air and water.
