At the start of the 115th Congress, House Republicans laid out our bold, pro-growth policy agenda, A Better Way to tackle the biggest challenges facing our nation. We’ve put many of these proposals into action, and we’re Better Off Now. We kick-started our economy with regulatory roll-back and tax cuts, and the numbers don’t lie.
Take a look at the top 25 ways, our economy is Better Off Now:
$2,059 - Average tax cut for a typical family of four
$2,000 - The new per-child tax credit - double the old amount
$12,000 and $24,000 - The new standard deduction for individuals and families, respectively - nearly double the old amount
16 - Regulations rolled back through the Congressional Review Act process - the most in history
$4.1 billion - Dollars saved in agency regulatory costs through Congressional Review Act rollbacks
4 million+ - Hours of paperwork saved by rolling back regulations
102 - Number of utility companies that have lowered prices in 48 states as a result of tax reform
642 - Companies that gave out pay raises, bonuses, or more benefits to workers, and counting
4 million - Americans who received bonuses, increased wages, or expanded benefits because of tax reform from
90% - Americans who are receiving bigger paychecks under the new withholding tables
3.4% - Increase in real disposable income in the first quarter of 2018
2.7% - Increase in average annual wages
$305 billion - Amount repatriated to the U.S. in the first quarter of 2018
$211.2 billion - Record high level of U.S. exports of goods and services.
3.7 million - Jobs created since November 2016
1.3 million - Jobs created since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act became law
6.6 million - Job openings as of May 2018, meaning more jobs than job seekers
5.75 million - New hires in May 2018, the highest level in 17 years and the second highest on record
65% - Americans who say now is a good time to find a quality job
62.9% - Increased labor force participation rate
4.6% - Hispanic-Latino unemployment rate, the lowest on record (June 2018).
6.5% - Black unemployment rate, the lowest in 10 years (June 2018).
95.1% - Manufacturers that feel positive about their own company’s outlook
54% - Americans who say the economy is “good†or “excellent†- highest in survey history
11.4 points - Increase in confidence among lower-income Americans since February 2018
We are not done yet! Rest assured, I will continue working to build a strong economy.
Sincerely,
Rob

Does he cite any of his claims or provide any useful data other than "here, read this and vote for we"? I've had some questions for him and he doesn't care to respond with specific answers other than thank you for contributing to "the process".

Yeah, I get nothing from him either. I've asked him for his position on issues, and get nothing but a thanks for contacting us, and Rob is on the j.o.b.

I have had the exact same experience, no response beyond generalities around the questions.

I sent all 3 of my ccs a request for info on the handling of illegals here, more concerned about the infusion of muslims than anything else 10 days ago, no response yet. Sometimes I get a newspeak email, and it takes a long time. I also requested Rob's position on our game plan for military involvement in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, and Syria, no pulse there either. Then I wanted to know how he'll vote on the upcoming vote to give Israel $38 billion of our tax money over the next ten years. an agreement by the Obama administration that is to take effect in 2019. It is being considered concurrently in both the Senate and the House. Is the largest military aid package in U.S. history and amounts to approximately $23,000 for every Jewish Israeli family of four.
The bill makes into law
The bill is entitled “United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018” (in the House the number is H.R.5141 and in the Senate it is S.2497).
Again, no response. You have to remember that VA has a big stake in the defense industry with naval bases, pentagon, etc, so we are economic captives here. That is why most of us are here. The DOD has spread the trickle down war profits around enough states to assure continued support from politicians.
Yeah, another meat puppet. But thanks Rob for all the shiny marbles to look at.

I will say that I wrote to both senators and Wittman, and the only one I actually received a response from was Kaine. It was a canned response, but a response nonetheless.
It's nice to know that our representatives have their fingers on the pulse of the people, isn't it?

John Warner is the only state or federal govt official who ever responded to me directly. I can almost understand why a Governor or a US Senator might have too many incoming communications to read them all, let alone respond to each one. Not that I don't think they should, just saying that from a practical standpoint, it would be extremely time consuming and inefficient. But for just about any other elected official, like Whitless and Brat Worst, who is my current Rep., we can reasonably assume the load is more manageable and they could at the very least spend a few hours a day directly addressing the questions and concerns raised by those they represent. What we have is unacceptable.
And I guess the answer to my questions about citing the spoon fed info in that email is a big "chirp....chirp..."

I’ve been to Warner’s home here in King George several times years ago. He wasn’t there on most visits. I was friendly with the caretaker. I met her while doing a home visit for a Dalmatian Rescue.

Jo Ann Davis, who died and opened the door for Wittman, was very responsive and had a lot of travel meetings with the public in the area. I asked her about the upcoming Iraqi invasion at a townhall in Montross before the invasion, and she assured the whole assembly that she knew info that we didn't (she was on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence), and this was based on sound intel. Well, she was fooled like Powell and a lot of others, but her heart was in the right place. She didn't duck public contact. I wish we had her back.

I didn't agree with most of Davis' policies, but I agree that she was very accessible, and wasn't afraid to address people who had the opposite viewpoint. She might not have voted the way I would have preferred at the time, but I also felt my voice was heard.
What's sad is that it would take so little for these politicians to 'pretend' that they cared, and they don't want to even do that.

Minx, I think that if you ever talked to her you could see she was sincere and really thought she was doing the right things. I would liken her to a mom or dad who takes away stuff to teach you a lesson, but meant well. It also really demonstrates her transformation into government service. Consider that she received constant chatter from intel sources as her only input, and less and less from real world people. Being from this district she was most likely to be bombarded with pentagon and military contractors from her district, and citizens who benefited from it. You see how easy it is to be seduced by the carrot, and for other electees there is also the secret files on them as collateral. I think that is my drive towards a term limit, but that will never happen. When at the town meeting I was at, I heard her say we had proof of weapons in Iraq, and while I was skeptical, I was obliged to wait and see, it was going down anyway. I waited, and I saw, no real purpose in the invasion. What's troubling is that it's still going on.

got this gem from him this morning
Friend-
Today, the House voted to send the conference report of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19 NDAA) to the President’s desk. Now, all that is left is for the Senate to do the same. As the Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, I am proud of this year’s NDAA as I believe it provides the authorities and resources for our men and women of the Armed Forces to do the job we've asked them to do.
In my subcommittee’s jurisdiction, we authorized an additional three battle force ships including the next Ford-class aircraft carrier. A dual buy of the next Ford-class aircraft carrier would be beneficial to both the taxpayers and to our maritime industrial base as it shows that Congress is committed to the thousands of workers who build and maintain aircraft carriers every day.
This NDAA takes important steps towards restoring our military readiness and giving our Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force the tools and resources they need to deter our adversaries, support our allies, and respond to threats around the globe. So I wanted to share some of the highlights with you.
Supports the necessary increase in topline funding to support our troops and readiness recovery consistent with the Trump Administration’s commitment to rebuilding the military.
Pay raise of 2.6% for our troops - Largest in 9 years. Increases the size of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Naval and Air Reserve, as well as Air Guard. Makes major reforms in Pentagon bureaucracy and streamlines buying practices. Increases funding to rebuild our military and support readiness recovery: Increases funding for training in each of the Services; $17.7 billion to begin to rehabilitate and replace worn out Army equipment; $40.8 billion to begin to overcome the crisis in military aviation by getting more aircraft in the air; $36.3 billion to restore America’s strength at sea; $23.5 billion to sustain, repair and rebuild crumbling military buildings and other infrastructure. Makes key investments in other critical military capabilities to confront aggression and address threats around the world, including threats from Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. Authorizes funding for co-development and co-production of missile defense and weapon systems with our key ally Israel. Authorizes $3.2 billion, an increase of $237 million, to support critical industrial base nodes that support the Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine. Authorizes an additional $750 million to more efficiently procure destroyers and amphibious ships. Authorizes a total of six Polar Icebreakers to assure United States commercial access to expanding northern shipping lanes. Mandates retention of a United States Navy Hospital ship capability. Authorizes $250 million to recapitalize the cable laying navy vessel, USNS Zeus. Authorizes the procurement of additional navy vessels to begin the recapitalization of the Navy’s 43-year old auxiliary fleet which would help to transport Army and Marine Corps forces in times of conflict. Specifically authorizes the procurement of CVN-81, the fourth Ford-class aircraft carrier. Directs the Navy to enter into an aggressive schedule to recapitalize the surge sealift fleet. While I am proud that this would be the first time in more than four decades that an NDAA will be enacted before the start of the fiscal year, we still have work to do to secure funding for our military. The House has passed our accompanying appropriations bill, but we need our colleagues in the Senate to do the same during their time in DC in August.
We need to get back to basics, perform our constitutional duty, and let our service members know that we have their backs while they’re serving on the front lines. Now that we’ve passed the NDAA, let’s get defense appropriations done and avoid the harm another Continuing Resolution could cause to our military. Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime an issue that concerns you comes before the House. It is an honor to serve you and the First District in the People’s House.
Sincerely,
Rob

Larry - I agree that her heart was in the right place, and she truly did want to try and make a difference. I disagreed with her, but I did respect her. That's what's missing today - respect. Our representatives are afraid to talk to anyone who might even slightly challenge their viewpoint, and instead only want to mouth drivel like what you posted above. Not a good thing at all.
And am I the only one who has noticed that while Whittman is quick to get the military bucks to build things, he doesn't seem to have done crap for our veterans?

They're all just salesmen and spokes persons. Selling a prepackaged and non returnable product. Pretty soon, the consumers of this crapwill accept it as the norm.

This is the email I sent to all 3 of my reps on Jul 17. No responses from Kaine or Warner. I did not expect ant, but both of them did chain mail me press releases, I guess as a participation prize. No email form Wittman, either, but while we were out I got a voice mail from one of his staffers, a Jacob Miller. He said that the email contained a link, and they can't open links. OK, I guess he is too busy to type in 22 characters. Good enough. I also had the contract references from the DHS and ICE, and his message said he'd "looked around" and couldn't find any public info on them. That's it, call anytime. There you go. So this morning I called the 202#, no one answers his local office), and talked to Teddy Hoffmann, and resent him the email, and promised to get back to me. He sounded sincere, they all do. Just FYI Stafford, VA 7/17/2018 Dear I am wondering what you can tell me about the MVM inc corporation www.mvminc.com/ that appears to have a contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to transport and house people at different locations. Can you please look into this matter, and provide some information on this activity? I would particularly be interested in who these people in custody are, what is their legal status, how many are in the system, how long this policy been in effect, the dollar amount of this one contract and if there are others, who in the US has authority over these people, who has access to these charges and what rights are they entitled to, and what documentation on them is made available to the public. The contracts that I refer to are HSCEDM14D00006 and HSCEDM15J00053. I know that you are as eager as I am to learn the facts in this issue, and will be awaiting your reply. Thank you in advance. Larry Johnson edit to add just rec this from Kaine ( email). I'll leave it for you to decide if this answers any questions or not. August 6, 2018 ********* ************* Stafford, VA 22554-1739 Dear Mr. Johnson: Thank you for contacting me about the treatment of children during immigration enforcement proceedings. I appreciate hearing from you. I have spoken out strongly against President Trump's heartless immigration policies, which have torn thousands of families apart. On June 7th, 2018, I joined 39 of my Senate Democratic colleagues in a letter strongly condemning the Administration's family separation policy and urging President Trump to reverse it. That same day, I joined Senator Dianne Feinstein in introducing the Keep Families Together Act of 2018. This legislation prohibits the separation of families at the border or at ports of entry except under extraordinary circumstances; increases child welfare training for Customs and Border Protection officers; establishes a policy preference for family unity; and develops procedures to allow families to relocate and reunite with their separated loved ones. Seeking to address the crisis he created, President Trump signed an Executive Order on June 20th, directing the Department of Homeland Security to detain immigrant families together. However, this Order did not outline a process for reuniting previously separated children with their families, nor did the order change the Administration's zero-tolerance prosecution policy, which will result in lengthy detention of migrant families. I believe Congress must exercise close oversight to make sure every agency and company involved in caring for unaccompanied children, including MVM, is doing so in a compassionate and effective way. On July 16th, I joined a group of Senators to introduce the REUNITE Act to require the immediate reunification of all families separated by President Trump and improve the coordination between agencies and non-governmental organizations to protect detained immigrants with children. I have also joined my colleagues in calling on relevant Congressional committees, including the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, of which I am a member, to hold hearings on the Administration's family separation policy and its treatment of detained children and families. Moving forward, I will support efforts that help ensure that the basic rights of all immigrants, regardless of their legal status, are protected as their cases advance through the legal system. Thank you again for contacting me. Sincerely, Signature Tim Kaine Stafford VA
