I wish I could laugh at this, but I just think of all the lives these scumbags destroyed. And I think of the Pope, who has yet to issue a real statement about how they have damaged so many people of faith, who trusted in these men.

The holy father has instructed them to leave the kids alone (for now) and focus on each other link.

The pope is in way over his head right now.
Meeting with Wuerl to 'discuss' the crisis is not a good move. He should have met with him to discuss the terms of Wuerl's resignation. This is a man who knew that the priests in his parish were being accused of molesting children, yet he not only did not ask for a criminal investigation to be conducted, he allowed these men to continue on with their careers unblemished. Saying "I should have done things differently" doesn't cut it in my book, and I doubt it brings any comfort to the victims of the priests he protected and promoted.
Sadly, I suspect that this will all be swept under the rug again unless pressure is kept on the church to bring everyone involved in this vile affair to account and atone for their actions. And part of that atonement MUST be their removal from any official office in the church if they were in any way involved in allowing this abuse to continue. To me, it would be like saying that it's okay to keep the principal of a school in place who had heard allegations of abuse about a teacher, but simply transferred the teacher to avoid controversy. Would you like that person to be the one in charge of your child's school?
I don't care how many good works Wuerl has done in his years with the church. To me, the mere fact that he's hemming and hawing about what actions he took when he presided over the diocese of Pittsburgh says enough.

The RCC is a couple centuries late on this. Of course Papa's in a pickle. Too bad they never had anyone to confess their sins away.
