I believe it is Congress that passes the budget. If anyone says they will or even thinks they can cut spending they are a lying ass poopy pants.

True. That's only part of the problem. There's budget, and there's revenue. Team Mushroomdick passed it all, hacking revenue while expanding spending, knowing the debt would thus explode. Next step is to cut back on any spending that benefits actual We The People, i.e. entitlement destruction, otherwise known as The Shitholizing Of Murrica.

Also, this is for the attention of people who ever claim deficits and debt matter. Because somehow that shit only matters when the GOP is not in power. Weird.

I went to a retirement planning class earlier this week. Dude who was the instructor made a good point. Regardless of your political beliefs, the fact is that this tax cut and other shit has been passed into law, and no one is going to have the guts to touch it again for a looooong time. So we had better all get together and pray that it works, because if it doesn't we're all completely screwed

Retirement planning should be given much earlier in an employee’s career.

I agree. I also think employers need to emphasize that they aren't going to shit when you retire, so start saving now. One thing my current employer does is automatically open a 401(k) for each employee and put 1% into it. There was some sort of lawsuit in Indiana where a retiree sued their former employer saying that they (the employee) was never told the company had no pension plan. (I don't know the results BTW). My company took heed - a large part of the benefit orientation was around retirement funds, and they said they did the 1% so that no one could say they didn't have a chance to contribute. Works for me, because I've finally reached a level where I can afford it. I don't know that it would work so well for the PT cashier at Weis though

We're not fucking the poor. We're making them middle-class at an accelerated rate via good job availability increasing. We're just getting started with this. Watch what happens in the coming years (unless you vote Democrat and wreck it all...)

It's easy to be entertained by the senate committee fighting like howler monkeys while pretending to fight for your rights with the scotus pick, but when congress is faced with splitting up the bananas, they howl together. Trump just signed another 853 Billion $ spending bill with 600 billion of that going to the Pentagon. Again, this is a "must pass" bill to avoid another shutdown. This just keeps them happy until Dec 7, when we'll presumably have the next crisis. We are on track to add 1 trillion$ to the debt ( to the Fed Reserve, of course) in this fy alone. It's nice to see they agree on some things. We only pay for the essentials.

I have some problems with that BLS data. It would have gone a long way had they broken it up into a few wage-income categories. As it is, they are taking into account the family units of people making much more than the low to middle income people, which undoubtedly fudges those tax numbers. Also would be the assumption that a family unit probably spends pretty close to the same amount on groceries whether their family unit's income is 60,000 or 600,000 a year. Clothing may be different.
The point is taken however. Taxation without representation is a thing again. Since no one on Capitol Hill really represents the people anymore. Or if they do, they're not the priority.

And... America spent more on taxes than food and clothing combined, sooo... lets add free college education and universal healthcare so's we can double or triple those taxes and STILL not pay for all of gov't's spending...

And, despite tax cuts, gov't revenues are up. Abracadabra, bitches! www.investors.com/politics/editorials/federal-tax-revenues-hit-record-highs-are-trumps-tax-cuts-paying-for-themselves/This of course means that the gov't is outspending the revenue increases, just like the last time under Reagan. Do we need to spend it? Well, the military sure as hell has gone to hell under "O" and needs a near-complete rebuild, with lots of new combat aircraft to replace the aging fleet. Do we need all that welfare spending, tho? We could sure abolish the department of education, and quit making student loans backed by the gov't. That way, there wouldn't be a perceived bottomless pit of money for the universities to jack up their prices to get "their share" of the gravy train, and education might actually get cheaper. Also, illegal aliens are costing us a fortune in public services that they're not paying for, are too poor to pay for healthcare such as childbirth, and so our taxes and our insurance companies all chip in and keep the hospital from going broke, sometimes, and our insurance premiums skyrocket to pay for them - somebody has to - so those with the money, us, are paying. Latest info is newly-recalculated 22 million illegal aliens in the country. Ship their asses all back where they came from, and then there's a labor shortage instantly, and wages HAVE to rise in order for those sitting at home that are too far from work to make it pay to drive there and get sucky wages, actually go to work when the sucky wages become not-so-sucky wages so they can either afford the drive or afford the move closer to work and maybe also afford child care while they work. There's no work that Americans won't do, they just won't do it for the peanuts that the big-business employers get away with paying illegals. You want those cucumbers picked? You're not going to get it done for $10 / hr, its gonna cost you $25 / hr. Don't like it? Buy a picking machine and do it yourself. IOW, fuck you, your days of abusing the working class are over, you're going to pay fair wages for the work you're getting.

That 2.4% barely paces inflation. As John notes, how you slice it makes all the difference. Median worker lost buying power over the last 18 months, where they gained buying power over the prior 18 months. That's less money to spend for Joe Median, which means less fire in the economic engine. Also, if you think deficits matter... www.thebalance.com/current-u-s-federal-budget-deficit-3305783Remember, all magic acts are just tricks, rally.

I don't have a link to the article handy, and I'm not looking it up since Rally will poo-poo it anyway.
Gist of the article is that the people who have recovered from the recession in 2007 are the ones who own housing or stock. Both of those have rebounded very well. However, if you lost your house, or your 401(k), you've pretty much have been left behind.
And for the record, lots of people had to use their 401(k) to pay the bills when the economy tanked, which is why they lost it. And while jobs may have come back, wages have not come back with them. Oh, and the program Obama created to help employees who's companies weren't large enough to open 401(k) accounts? - Cancelled by Trump. (program was called myRA, and worked in a similar fashion to a 401k, so you weren't constrained by the IRA limits)
