What such articles never say is that it cost Amazon millions to hire the financial help to guide the company to take advantage of every deduction and tax avoidance scheme in existence. This means that the company was making decisions based not on what was best for business and therefore making stockholders (us in many cases) more money, but instead simply avoiding taxes. So the company loses when not making the best business decisions and loses again when having to pay millions to tax pros - lawyers and accountants - to know how to avoid the taxes. The gov't loses because it gets $0 coming in from Amazon. Of course, corporate income taxes should be called "domestic tariffs" because that's what they are, taxes that raise the price of domestic goods and services. America should not be tariffing its own stuff, it should tariff foreign stuff... only. We should stop trying to tax business... because it is literally bad for business and so that means bad for the American people. All taxes on business should be outlawed. It should be a constitutional amendment. |

Trump is supposedly worth $13 billion. What if he simply stopped working? Then his income would be $0. He'd just be spending his pile of money for the rest of his life, and the US gov't has no tax on that. Why is that? Its because, in 1913, the rich of that era, tired of paying for running the entire country via the tariffs and excise taxes that the founding fathers set up to finance the country, (these were consumption taxes), switched the country to running on income taxes, and relieved themselves of the burden of paying for virtually everything and shifted it down to the common man via income taxes. So DJT could exit the presidency and just sit back and spend, spend, spend, living the high life, and not pay a damned dollar of income taxes because he would have no income. Just outgo. The FairTax would fix that, y'know? The FairTax would tax his spending. |
