that having knee replacement has some definite drawbacks. Nearly a year since the first one and I still cannot put any weight on the knee (as in crawling). I’ve fallen twice in less than a two week period and holee molee - dropping the tonnage of my weight to the floor on my knees incurs a whole bunch of agony! (I am remiss in picking up my feet when walking, which results in tripping. Up until recently, I’ve been able to catch myself before succumbing to gravity.). Most recently was as I was getting ready for bed, night before last. And, since I can’t put weight on my knees, getting back up is quite the challenge. It took me about 40 minutes of maneuvering and trial-and-error before I was finally able to hoist my massive, useless body up onto the steps leading into my bed.
So now I’m gingerly walking around, with swollen, painful knees. Add this to my persistent coughing equals misery. Well, more misery.

Do you have a walker or at least a cane?

Yes. Still have the walker, but only use it for exercises. I was actually carrying a cane when I fell the last time! It happened so fast, I guess I couldn’t balance myself. I take the cane into the bedroom at bedtime because I’m unsteady at times when I wake up to pee. And I keep the canes near me at all times.
I just have to concentrate on keeping myself upright. I can’t complain, because the pain had subsided bigly in my knees before this.

A crazy idea, but have you thought about seeing your doctor and mentioning that you're having balance issues? At the least, maybe they could get you authorized for more PT.

I don’t pick up my feet when I walk. It’s related to the pain in my feet and hips. I know what causes it. I just need to be more aware.
I’m done with doctors.

Just to add that I’ve been a klutz all my life - even as a baby, I would bruise myself bumping into things! So these incidents are nothing new. And, I’m always careful to use my cane when I’m drinking, which is a recent thing to help with the pain and sleep issues.
Im not sure that I could have ever passed those sobriety tests they give, even stone cold sober!

So much for being more careful! 🤪🤪😆😆😆
Last night, I put a bottle of melatonin on the steps to take up with me when I went to bed. I missed them as I was going up and forgot all about them. But I didn’t miss them going down today! I did avoid falling down 6 steps, but managed to wrench my bad ankle, my right knee and then had to put more pressure on said knee to get myself upright. Yoweeee! What I wouldn’t give for some Vicodin. Have to make do with ice. Yes, I’m icing my joints!🤣

That is not good. Perhaps moving the bed downstairs?
