Last week, I dropped into the local CVS, rather than using the drive-thru as is my usual access. I had passed the 5 month mark since my first shingles vaccine, and, although I was on the list to be notified when it was available, I had heard nothing. My friend’s daughter was working, and said they had recently run out of their latest shipment. She ordered more on the spot and said it would be there “in a few days”. On my way home from my quarterly trek to Richmond, I dropped by today to see if the vaccine had arrived and was thrilled to discover that, not only had it arrived, but my friend’s daughter had reserved a dose for me! Now I can check off that “to-do”. And I don’t need to worry about starting the process over, which I would have been forced to do if I hadn’t gotten the second dose by June 22.

Woo-hoo!
I need to put that on my to-do list, but I haven't gotten around to it. Definitely something to work on this weekend.

My internist warned me that the side effects from the second vaccination are worse than the first and she was correct. I had some redness, pain and swelling at the vaccination site as well as a headache for a couple days the first time. But I had this plus more - muscle aches and shivering. I was shivering so badly when I went to bed yesterday morning that I almost turned on the electric blanket. I believe the worst is over, and the symptoms are minor compared to actual shingles.

Ugh. Thanks for letting me know that though, so I can be prepared.

I’ve heard others suffering worse. Like always, it’s different for everyone. I told the pharmacist what my doc had told me and she was surprised to hear it. I’m glad it’s over. The swelling and redness has subsided quite a bit and the injection site is starting to itch a bit.
