If it wasn't so, so far away from understanding reality, this article would have made me laugh www.msn.com/en-us/money/insurance/almost-50percent-of-americans-are-making-this-healthcare-mistake/ar-AAFK3EL?ocid=ientpSo the geniuses behind the article note that wealthier people get checkups and preventative care at a higher rate than their less well off comrades. What do we take from this? Well poor people, why the hell don't you budget for those appointments? Just stop getting carryout and silly things like that, because your health is clearly more important. Save, save save! I'm sure forgoing that latte will more than cover the cost of a standard lab panel (cholesterol, blood sugar, blood count). Last one I had was over $200 before insurance. I'm sure that people who are working two jobs to pay the rent will be able to save that change in no time. Heaven forbid they use the $10 they have left over at the end of the month to treat themselves to a Big Mac. Can't have that.

The Fredericksburg Christian Health Center, which has gone completely down the tubes by the way, is $125 office visit for self pay. Add on modern conveniences like labs, procedures, etc and then poor people gonna have to sell day Lexus.

Didn't the guy who owned that retire? And I wonder if they have as many contributions as they did in the past. Staffing and running a medical office ain't cheap sadly. And yeah, $125 for a standard office visit is pretty much the norm. Figure you go once a year, and get standard lab work. That alone is probably close to $350 smackers without insurance. And it will only go up from there. But yeah, just don't order that pizza for your kids as a treat, and you can easily afford it.

Tim Powell decided, I mean GAWDUH! called him to teach medicine. He was my doctor before robomnycare and we got Kaiser. It was very well run back then. I went back there when we got Medicaid and it's a shit hole.

Well, to give Timmy his due, GAWDUH also called him to start the clinic too. He did have a vision and was passionate about wanting to help people - that's probably what made the clinic successful in the first place. The people there now probably want to help people, but they don't have the same passion that he had.

TRUEDUH! I read the stories about when he started it. I think MWH had a lot to do with it or was his primary funding source. Really don't remember. When I started going over there as an uninsured person, I was really pleased with him and the staff. Until they were diagnosing my wife with carpal tunnel and back spasms and various other things but a total fail not putting it all together and figuring out the MS thing.
The one who runs it now, Dr. Stinar, is a sharp guy. I don't know if it's a lack of passion, commitment, or faith but what I do know is the place is rife with medical and administrative incompetence now. I switched after my first visit yielded net zero things done correctly, professionally, or timely. But hey, they got that prayer shit down pat.

Isn’t the Moss Clinic still open?

I believe so. Back when, you had to dance in a tutu and jump through flaming hula hoops to be seen there.

Oh, that’s too bad. Dr. Moss saved my life so he has a special place in my heart.

At the time, there was no obummercare or Medicaid expansion PLUS the housing bubble, Bush economy, etc .. so I'm sure they were standing room only all day every day, You know, with the 47% that wanted free stuff.

The money may not even be the hardest part. All the poors stockpile plenty of sick leave, right? Or use their vacation days, right?

Of course! How could you question that Bob? Although it's not just the poor who suffer from that. When I worked for Dr. Jones, we saw a lot of kids in the after-hours clinic because their parent couldn't take time off or Geico would penalize them - they had leave, but they'd get whacked for using it And my sister, who makes good money works as a wound care nurse. You know, vulnerable people who have open wounds from things like bedsores and surgery. She has asthma, so is very vulnerable to upper respiratory infections. She's gotten bronchitis twice in the past two years and has had to take time off - each time her supervisor has asked "Are you really sure you're sick?" despite her being in the day before and coughing her ass off.

Best system in the world. Unless you want health care.
