I understand he meant no harm, but in a predominately black neighborhood, hanging the effigy of a body (because they did do a good job of making them look like a body tied in a trash bag for sure) that is wrapped in a black plastic trash bag isn't really tasteful. We like to think of lynching as something that happened long ago when the KKK was at it's height, however, there are blacks today that have recent (think grandparents) family members who were lynched or who remember lynchings from where they grew up. And also remember that in many places, lynchings were big parties where white parents bought picnic lunches and their kids to have fun watching an innocent human get tortured. So if this guy wasn't very well known in the neighborhood (it sounds like he wasn't), I can see people getting upset. And while it would have been nice if they took their concerns to the neighbor himself, we have all fostered a culture where people are afraid to confront someone directly, however nicely they do so, for fear of physical harm. And that's a HUGE issue - people are literally becoming terrified of talking to one another

Lynchings are still an occasional thing, just less of a Public Celebration.

I call bullshit. It had no connotation of lynching AT ALL. People are literally on the lookout for things to be offended about and it's not helping things in this country. Comedians can't tell unapproved jokes, unless of course the comedian is black, in which case no one is censoring them. On the other side of the coin people are hypersensitive about kneeling during the anthem. Add to the list sports mascots, red hats, and a million other things. In all of these cases no one have ever been harmed except around their sphincter area.

As i read it, it was not intended to offend and some snowflake called the cops. That's lame.
But how do you do a tasteful Halloween death display without someone looking for offense to take? It's a freaking national pastime anymore. Look how worked up people get over mere fucking curse words.

A couple of years ago there was a house right around the corner in Salem Fields that got called out in the fls for something similar. It was on my way to the grocery store so saw for myself and even I thought it was a bit much, though I honestly don't remember the details now. A friend of mine who lives over there agreed with my "what were THEY thinking" assessment and he's not exactly a white guilt bleeding heart liberal either.
It would be most helpful if people, all people, used a little bit of their brains meant for thought, and not always action/reaction without thought.

True. At the same time, it's about time that someone had the cops sicced on them simply for being white.
Friend's cousin got into work early a month ago and decided to sit in the car and finish the podcast he was listening to. White guy called the police to say there was a suspicious person in the parking lot in a car. Police came, checked his licence, registration and work ID, and apologized for bothering him. They then went over to the white dude (who worked in the same building and saw cousin on the elevator every morning) and told him all was okay. No reprimand, or an admonishment to not call 911 over this shit. Just 'Thanks for your call, nothing to worry about here.' And the dude rode the elevator upstairs with him and didn't say a word.
So yeah, I get that this guy was pissed and that the neighbor should have checked before calling. At least he didn't have to be terrified that the cops were going to shoot him for nothing, simply because some white dude got scared.

Yeah whatever. Left my white guilt in my underpants.
PS I've have the cops called on me for telling off an old lady and giving away free computers, among other things.

A rescue friend has several “skeletons” that she puts in new poses every day for the month of October. Here are 2 of my favorites so far.
