RSL cancelled it's summer league for this year.
While it was the right thing to do (those swim meets are a packed sweating mess of humanity for sure), I'm still very sad.
The little Minx started swimming when she was 5 and stopped after she graduated HS. Then she was an assistant coach for 3 years. Swimming did a lot for her confidence, and we were lucky enough to have the same coach for most of her time there (coach the first year moved, and then Pete Mahoney took over).
While it was a lot of long hot hours working the meets, it was all worthwhile to see the smile on her face at the end - she was never the best swimmer out there, but she gave it her all every single time. I feel sad for all of the kids who were looking forward to the season starting who are now shut out.
I know they're not the only rec league affected by this, and of course we'll have to see how HS sports shake out in the fall. This one just hits a little closer to home.

That sucks. I heard the Redneck Olympics and 4 Wheel Jamboree in Alabama will go in as scheduled. I'm debating entering in the morbidly obese division of the 26 meter naked mud slide.

Both my stepsons competed. The eldest, who was no athlete by any means, excelled and it helped with his confidence, as well. The younger had no issues with confidence, as he excelled at baseball, football an basketball. He had that annoying jock swagger that some have - cocky asshole. The eldest was gay, and grew up with a father that ridiculed that lifestyle so he needed all the help he could get. He and I were close until his father died. I’m sad that we’ve lost touch.
