Dead from the Rona. Mets’ tribute was heartwarming.

Interesting. The article I read earlier today said he died from a long "battle" with dementia.
My dad is just about that age (will be 73 in October) and is losing that same battle pretty frikkin fast. The little signs started maybe 3 or 4 years ago but in the past year or two it's been a hard slide down hill. Long story but he was put in a rehab place because he kept falling at home and from what they tell me he's not going back. I can't even bring myself to call him (and no visitors) because he basically just babbles most of the time and it's too much. And I'm not sure but I assume talking to him and him not being able to put words together gets him upset. Anyway, where I was going with this is..... He's at one of those places where it's a much greater possibility of contracting the virus (I don't know what Seaver's situation was). I'm in no way wishing it upon him, but I have told others that if it gets him, there are worse things. There's a difference between living and being alive. In a perfect world we'd go out on our own terms and none of us would choose to suffer.

Seaver had dementia, but the Rona took him out.
Dementia got my grandpa, and when I last saw him, in critical care, he thought I was one of his sons.

Dementia is evil. My great aunt used to tell everyone at her nursing home that my mother (who she had been very close to) was her sister, and called me her nurse. Was very hard for my mom, especially since Aunt May always asked her every week if the painters had finished the house yet, so she could move back in (house had been re-painted 20 years ago and she stayed with us for two weeks). Was very hard seeing all of her memories disappear.
And as I noted in the health thread, while he had the Rona, the dementia didn't help in terms of his body being able to fight it off.

I’m not sure if mom had dementia or if it was the drugs addling her brain, but while I was caring for her I kept an intercom in my room so I would be sure to hear her if she needed me. I was awakened to her calling, “Mother!” many times. It unnerved me quite a bit. That wasn’t the only flaky thing she said or did, but it was the one that really stuck in my mind.
Many years before this, she had a diabetic “episode” that put her in the hospital. She exhibited many of the same symptoms as a stroke as far as cognitive functioning goes. She didn’t know anyone but my dad and me. (Pissed my sister off to no end!) She required a lot of occupational therapy. The physical therapy was a bonus as it got her on a walker for a short time. But she was in a nursing home for 6 weeks and wasn’t happy about it at all.

Death can be lingering and really cruel. When I’m god, things will be better.
