Made his big comeback yesterday. It's a testament to his doctors, family, and of course himself that he was able to do this.
Didn't watch the game itself, just saw the score and that he went in in the 2nd quarter. I'm happy that he achieved his goal, but I'm also wondering how long he'll continue to play.
Dude almost died from his injury. At what point do you say it's just not worth the risk? His wife said she almost vomited when she saw him take the field. For her sake, I hope he doesn't get hit again.

Stat banner said he was sacked 6 times. A wise man usually outlives the hero.

Oh man - I saw the replay, and holy sheet!
Is anyone really watching any of these games? I only know about Smith because he was all over the local snews last night.

I’m the idiot that paid for Sunday Ticket and haven’t watched it a minute. I turned it on opening week, but the Tampa game was on a network channel so I had to watch it there. I haven’t watched a game since. I still get alerts from the Pats and Skins apps and was notified when Smith went in the game. I briefly considered turning it on but didn’t have the energy to do it. After 6 sacks, I hope he’s reconsidering retirement.

Probably not. I mean if your whole motivation is to get back as a starter, then you probably aren't going to be thinking about your long-term health. And while I don't know what goes on in his private life, I can't picture him thinking about his family too much either seeing as he put his wife and parents through hell when he was first injured and they had to sit at his bedside praying he wasn't going to die.
OTOH, I haven't seen a ton of articles glorifying his return to play either. It seems like sports writers are starting to get the concept through their noggins that praising players who play (or try to play) through serious injuries isn't necessarily a good thing.

I spoke too soon. Should have googled the man - lots of articles about his miraculous comeback. And that is true - it is miraculous what he accomplished in coming back to play. Here is an interesting article on his comeback www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/10/13/alex-smith-wife-elizabeth-comeback/I do understand the drive to say that he overcame a horrific injury. But as many of the comments noted, he wasn't on track to be one of the greats before this happened, and perhaps he should quit while he's ahead. I doubt it will happen though.
