Smith isn't nearly as smart as he is tough and brave (can I still use that word?). The Washington Football Team should go ahead and sign Kapernick.

I admire Smith (more so his doctors and therapists) for coming back like that.
He made his point - he had the potential to be one of the great ones, and if it hadn't been for a freak injury, he could have taken the Skins pretty far.
A smart man would count all his blessings and go home to enjoy his millions.

Isn't this the same guy who missed the final snap of the game because he was taking selfies with the fans last year?
One would have thought that the team's PR staff would have gone over optics of certain actions more completely....

The same.
The same that sees fit to celebrate individual effort than team results.

Yup - and some other kid was told that sports would be their ticket out, only to find out that they weren't quite good enough and should have focused a little more on their studies than coach said was needed.

Yup - and some other kid was told that sports would be their ticket out, only to find out that they weren't quite good enough and should have focused a little more on their studies than coach and their parent/s said was needed. FIFY the time I spent trying to keep the fat heads (the ones that believed coach dad's bullshit) grounded. Exhuasting. I'd tell them, dream with your eyes open or you'll get hit in the face with the ball. (I always felt like that was one of my best but I had a lot of them).

OMG - the parents!!
I'll always have nightmares about the parents who would come into the scoring area to complain because their little darling didn't get a heat winner ribbon, and THEY TOUCHED FIRST!! (They were given to the little kids because in the younger age groups, you could enter a ton of swimmers in an event, and there usually were 2-3 heats - it was just a little encouragement and didn't affect the meet results. So a volunteer stood by the side of the pool and gave the ribbon to the first kid they saw touch the wall -- clearly some of these assholes thought their kid was cheated out of Olympic Gold)

If you are watching this game, the kid that ended Haskins' day is the younger brother of the boy that got killed by lightning in spotsy at the baseball field. Gross-Matos is their last name.

I will give Rivera his due - he seemed genuinely concerned for Haskins and his future. He's either a decent man or a damn good liar, but I admire that he didn't coddle Haskins from the beginning. In a perfect world, Haskins would learn from this and go on to have a career in the NFL with another team. But I suspect he'll be another athlete who didn't understand that his career would end in the blink of an eye and will end up with nothing And that's very sad.

One of the problems that I've seen over the years is the elevation of the rookie quarterback to superstar status before they even take their first snap in a regular season NFL game. RG3 and the hyper hyped hype that came with him didn't take long to extinguish after his couple seasons. Not going to get into the merits of all that, just saying that once upon a time, RG3 and just about every other college superstar QB spent a season or two or three holding a clipboard. In doing so, they got a chance to learn about the world of difference between college and the pros, from the speed and veracity of the game, to the business-centric world of professional sports. And maturity as a player and as a person often times depending on the organization. But the one thing that was rare was throwing a kid right into the fire his first season, which I believe further sets them up for failures like this.

Read an interesting article talking about where Haskins 'went wrong'. The author talked about his love for the game, and how he was the little kid who spent hours practicing his game.
But then it talked about the adults in his life - his dad who told all the pee-wee coaches that he was 'above his league' when he was in 4th grade. The HS coaches who begged to have him play for them. The coaches at Ohio State who bragged about how awesome he was.
The author talks draft night when Haskins was picked by the Skins - rather than basking in the hometown boy does good narrative, he made a comment that the NFL didn't know talent when they saw it, because he wasn't picked higher.
The gist of the article is that all through this young man's career he was told that he was The Next Great Thing, so what were we expecting in terms of his maturity and ego? Applies to a lot of athletes. doesn't it? Incidentally, the author didn't make excuses for Haskins - was more of an explanation as to why he may have gotten to the point he did - it ended with the author saying that he hoped someone would step up and mentor Haskins so he could mature and maybe get another chance, but that it was probably way too late for that.

I watched the second half of tonight’s game. It’s the first time I’ve watched the DC team in nearly 2 years. Chase Young is a beast! Now they play Brady and the Bucs.

I've seen it used that way 100s of times already.
It came to my attention the other day that not only way Fedex a major sponsor and the main ones that put the pressure on the organization to change the name, but they (a person/s on their top floor) are also minority owners. All the more reason to piss me off about the name change. You can support the team without supporting the organization IMO, but the line gets so much finer when they alienate the lifetime fan in the name of political correctne$$.

I have to say that I've warmed up to the WFT name, and I like the W and having the player's number on the helmet rather than a logo. I think they just need to do more marketing - be a part of the team! The W(using the stylized W)inning team!
Although the rumor I heard was that The Danny wanted it to be the Washington Football Club.

I don't see myself warming up to it period. Keep in mind that I was done with them long before this came about but when Michaels had to correct himself for saying "Redskins" when referring to a player from the past..... that reminded me of when NASCAR changed the name to the megacorp sponsor of the day, Sprint I think was first, and they tried to whitewash the entire history of winston cup racing and all the people that spent their money, time, blood, and guts being a part of that select organization.
So yeah, the name change was just the final straw and while I've been watching here and there for the first time in years, I will never materially support that team under any name as long as Snyder owns it.

Hilarity ensues: www.nfl.com/news/bruce-arians-chase-young-tom-brady-you-better-watch-what-you-wish-forHe might be one of the best players they've drafted in quite a while, but rookie might wanna rethink the trash talk when his team got carried into the playoffs on a refugee boat. That's bad enough by itself, but directing his smack towards a guy that has accomplished the pinnacle of success in the nfl, and first ballot hofer, he's likely to not enjoy the fresh crow he'll be served next weekend.

So I did watch the game last night due to equal parts of boredom, mild intoxication, and curiosity. I gave them no chance WITH Alex Smith so really had less than nothing expectations-wise. It was actually a pretty good game overall. The new guy, Heinike?, played like a baller. He showed more pro game in one quarter than the few games I ever saw from Haskins. Is it possible that the HC will also use his position as GM and keep this guy around to give him a chance next season or will DannyCorp, PC find a way to fuck that up too?
I truly hope Smith finds the courage to retire. And if Danny sells the team this summer, I might even have more reason to watch next season. We're still a long way off from fandom.
