The members of the party of no are meeting with Biden today to present their offer of woefully inadequate, personally insulting, and desperate half measures that equal about one-third the President's own covid stimulus package.
If I was Biden I would like to have them sit in the room, without heat or electricity, maybe one bottle of water per every 4 people, no food, and make them wait a while until it sunk in. If that took too long then maybe kick them out into the cold. Then tell them I'm ready but make them stand in line to get back in. And as the meeting starts, sign an Executive Order canceling the Congressional Health and Retirement plans.

I like that he's meeting with them right away.
After the meeting, he needs to issue a statement saying why their proposal is a no-go with some specific examples - it's based on 2019 tax returns - many of those people have lost jobs and shut down businesses - we have no way of knowing who is still making $50K a year and who is not. People need money NOW, not after we develop some sort of needs test
-Ditto for just about everything else
But he does appreciate that these Republicans are trying to work on solutions, rather than complaining. He hopes that all Republicans come together to try and be part of the solution - we need all hands on deck right now.

I was 100% serious about the OP but on a more realistic note I agree with you. Except that even if it were something that could be efficiently done in terms of means testing, 50K ain't shit for a family of 2 let alone 3 or more. Basing it off your tax return be it 2019, 18, 17, 16 even if it's your AGI, ain't shit. Most people I know with a household income of less than 50k are basically not even what one considers middle class. Not when your paycheck after taxes is 600-700/wk. Two weeks of which go directly to rent or mortgage, one week to food, and one week for everything else. So if we're going to do the responsible thing by determining need based on income, then send the relief payments to everyone and then announce the full amount is going to be taxed as income for anyone making over 100k AGI in 2021.
The problem and the point, as is always the point when we're talking about GOP "plans" is that they are NEVER made without the best interests of those LEAST in need, and this charade should not be entertained IMO.

Oh, and Schumer and Pelosi should be saying the same and offering to meet with them too - sadly, it takes guts to break from the herd, so those that do, need to know that they'll get the praise and recognition for doing the right thing and finally being true patriots.
Sad that we've come to this pass though.

I'm not in the Pelosi Fan Club by any stretch. I said last go-round that it was a mistake keeping her in that chair. It's a mistake this go-round. Schumer is as effective at governing as the little bobble head hula girl on the dash of every car in Cuba. The GOP is making them look stupid by simply taking one step back from the far right. Two things I see as very real possibilities are 1)being beaten at their own game 2)beating themselves by trying to be cute, like adding the $15 federal minimum wage to the relief bill.

Schumer is saying "well fuck you too" and basically saying to the pale riders that this is going to happen with a "simple majority".... we'll see. I've heard suggestions that one or two dems may not be on board. Manchin is one of them, of course.
Anyway, if the main concern is giving relief funds to those that don't need them, then this is a NEW position by the right. Right?
So instead of fucking around, trying to figure out who does and does not "need" it, which is posturing to begin with, let's just say we do this:
Make the payment/s received taxable from 0% up to 100% depending on your AGI for 2021? Don't want to pay tax on it? Allow legitimate charitable contributions to be deducted again, up to the amount given in relief funds.
Remember that thing I said about standing in line, filling out forms, proving their need, proving their ability/disability, assigning them a seat in group C, and all the paces they put the less fortunate in? Fuck that shit. Get that money out there and encourage people to

John, I love this idea! You personally have an AGI of $100K or more (as an example), then that shit's getting taxed. I'd even be generous and say that you have to simply declare it as income, rather than just cashing the check.
Either way, $1400 isn't shit, regardless of what you make. But if you're not making a lot to begin with $1400 is a lot more shit than it is to someone making bank. Just send out the checks and be done with it.
Because $1400 isn't shit, and unless these jackasses do something concrete, more and more people will be going under. And every fucking Republican who opposes these checks because there are 'plenty of jobs' out there, should be forced to apply for one to see how easy not only the application process is, but how much fun it is waiting and hoping to be actually interviewed. And then told that you're overqualified to stock shelves former Senator Graham. That what way too many people are experiencing. Either they're overqualified, or because they don't have a 4 year degree, they're not qualified to greet people and answer a phone. Can't win either way.

That's only the tip of the iceberg. They check your credit history to work at most corporate owned businesses now. Happened to me years ago at Lowes AAMOF. They want a resume when you apply to fast food chains and other bottom of the literal and figurative food chain jobs. I have seen entry level job postings requiring the same. Don't forget drug testing. Because we can't have smot pokers working here, because we want control over our employees even when they are off teh clock, we still own them. Oh, and now the next big thing is going to be allowing the employers to investigate your social media accounts. More ownage. Sure hope you don't have unapproved books or posters on your wall in those snaps. Or sticking your tongue out in front of a girl in a bikini, you know how that looks to our clients over here at Potbelly Subs. Just as bad as a girl in a bikini sticking her tongue out. How disgusting to our puritan values!
So BOT, while 1400 a person is a drop in the bucket for some folks, it can be a literal life saver for the poor asshole that has a fucked up car that needs to be fixed so he can get to work, or a mother of small children that is a couple months behind on her bills and needs money to relocate to somewhere closer to family and/or job opportunities. 2800 for a household where both people work but have had their hours cut, can make a car payment and keep the reposnatchers at bay, get the internet turned back on so their kids can do distance learning, and/or buy some clothes and school supplies as schools will be opening back up soon. For those people in the example, they would not pay any tax on the relief funds because obviously they wouldn't be reporting 100k in AGI on their '21 returns.

Regarding credit checks and drug tests. I can see them for some jobs - you don't want a forklift driver who's going to come in every day high as an example. I don't see it being as big of an issue for the guy stocking shelves. At the same time, I also wouldn't be against a company who does it for everyone - the CEO has to pass the same drug screen that the forklift driver does for example.
And screw credit checks completely. Like I'm going to embezzle from you because my car was repo'ed last year? Eff you. Lots of people who embezzle have perfect credit records. The only thing a credit report should be used for is for a bank or other lender to determine if you can pay back a loan.
The eldest just got a job at Geico. Had to pass a credit check, criminal background check and drug screen. To answer calls about people's car insurance. Top secret security stuff for sure.

Oh, and send the checks now and tell people the tax stuff will be figured out and passed later this year - have the IRS send everyone a letter to let them know.
On second thought, perhaps the letter should say that if you're so concerned about your neighbor's financial status then you need to get a life!!!
