"but I'm not getting vaccinated"
So says one of my online friends. Why is she not getting vaccinated? Well it's for 'personal' reasons she doesn't want to go into, but she does want me to know that her little area of Iowa never really shut down - they respect those who are fearful of course and if people want to wear a mask, they're more than welcome to do so. But stores don't require it, her church is fully open and she hasn't worn one for months, cause she's not going to allow someone else's fear take away her freedom. And she's not hurting anyone after all.
Her 85 year old mother has been out and about as well - if she gets the 'Rona, then she gets it. She'd rather live her life fully and take chances than wither away in fear.
Do I need to say that while part of her family tested positive, and one member actually had symptoms, that they were rather mild? And should I add that neither she, nor anyone she knows has been hospitalized by this? Oh, and she's also an Evangelical Christian, but I know I didn't need to tell you that!
Better half a million people die agonizing deaths alone, than for a vaccine to be developed using decades old fetal tissue from an abortion.....

Don't hate me.
I don't hate you but I do think you're a nutjob.
Best thing Biden has done is to NOT mandate vaccinations. At this point no governors appear to be looking at that either. Why do I think it's better they don't? Because they (your friend et al) are the people that are all about the government that governs least. This is a great selling point for all Democrats come midterms and beyond, "we let the people decide, some may call it pro-choice"...
Another thing that I'm kind of hoping for is that we'll start seeing public services, schools, private and government employers, mass transit, indoor venues, and things like multi-unit housing facilities (especially assisted living, rehabs, nursing homes) all start to require people to produce proof of being vaccinated in order to live there, work there, or to even visit there. I'm even at the point where if you get the rona and don't have a vax, then you go to the back of the line in triage, outside, in a tent, by yourself.

Why should I feel any particular way about Typhoid Mary? She feels fiiiiiine, what's the issue?
Your friend refuses to lift a finger for the least among us. I'll see her in hell.

An old co-worker of mine summed up my feelings best in one of his recent FB posts:
Usually it's swastikas or White Power tattoos: When someone shows those symbols, it's clear that they've opted out of civilized society, and you don't owe them the respect of listening to them. At all. It will be a waste of time. Right now (for the past year, and still now in March 2021), deliberately not wearing a mask when near other people puts you in that same group. I'm not saying you're a nazi, or a white supremacist. I'm saying you are signaling very clearly that you've opted out of civilized society, and I'd be wasting my time by listening to you.
So I didn't say she was a selfish prick. I simply said that I knew too many nurses and I personally knew several people who had had severe cases to want to put anyone I knew, let alone myself at a higher risk. I also asked if she'd be willing to share her reasons for not being vaccinated. Other than that, she can go screw herself.

IMO, Biden and the Democrats should come out and shout that they will not make vaccinations mandatory on the Federal level because much like any medical decision, this should be made between an individual and their doctor. They are the party of Choice after all.
At the same time, I don't want them saying that governors can't lock their own damn states down - let the Republicans get a taste of what it's like when your own state denies you the right to make a medical choice.
