I wouldn't be surprised if acquitted on the murder one charges. The other charges not so much, as they seem to me to be pretty solid imo. That is, if there's not a mistrial.
We really need to take off our "kid gloves" when it comes to this shit and start open hand bitch slapping these people's entire bloodline, both metaphorically and literally. You YOu YOU are responsible for your spawn until they are 18 years of age and we are almost close enough with our laws that if you said make it 21, I'd go along with that also.
I hate to go there but if this was a 17 year old black kid "protecting himself" no amount of wailing on the stand would save his ass from a 2 day trial ending with a couple of life sentences or his attorney having him plead out.

The current trial is for Wisconsin state charges. Crossing borders is a Federal concern, isn't it?

Nah. I don't fault the kid's defense. It's their job to do everything in their power to keep their client out of jail, and they're doing a damn good job right now.
Prosecutor has been blowing it to a degree - he knows the judge isn't on his side and yet has done stupid stuff like asking the kid why he exercised his 5th amendment rights at the police station. It's your constitutional right not to talk if you don't want to, and it can't be used against you (as in 'So why did you take the 5th?').
Better question would have been -'Okay, so you turned yourself in to the police because you knew it was the right thing to do. Did you tell them your version of events at that time?'. And when Rittenhouse said no, just pause for a while and say 'Okay. Moving on...' Let the jury mull on the fact that he was Mr. Civic Duty, but didn't want to talk to the police about what happened once he was in custody. Hmmmm.
And hey, defense got the gun charge dropped, didn't they? And the jury is still out, so I'd say they're debating on what charge they can come back with that will say 'Naughty boy!', so it appears justice was done. Cause if they thought it was cut and dried, they'd be back already.

The only way I can think of it being a federal would be if he were a convicted felon or perhaps trying to sell the weapon. But full disclosure I really can't say I'm sure. Some states have like these transfer laws and what they call reciprocal, I think? IOW, if I show my VA ccp and driver license to a MD state trooper, he would not be able to charge me with his states' laws regarding carry or transfer. But if I get pulled over again in NY, if that shit isn't unloaded and secured.... my dick is short. Then again, I'm not 17 yo and my mother driving me across state lines to allow me to act as an untrained unlicensed unpermiited armed security guard not employed by the business he was intending to shoot people for. |

Self defense is straightforward. If someone attacks you, and you defend yourself.... like I said simple. However there are also things called nuance, mitigating circumstances, and malice of forethought. These are the material facts that must not be disregarded because even if he was in fact defending himself, he made the conscious choice to become a part of a riot. Had someone killed him, they would not be afforded the same defensive considerations. You can bet the whole deposit box on that.
