I mean totally screw that motherfucker. How DARE he say that infertile couples who don't adopt a child are selfish? And that those who choose (for whatever reason) not to have children are selfish too? www.nbcnews.com/news/world/adoption-highest-forms-love-pope-francis-says-rcna11065Maybe that scumbag should focus on using the money and power of his church to create social programs that help children, and support families. Best friend worked for the church as an administrator. Became disabled, and after 12 weeks found out that she no longer had a job. After over 10 years of working for them. And how did she find out? Via US mail. Bastards didn't even have the courtesy to call her. And we won't talk about the loving ministry of the priests, who also didn't bother checking in on her while she recovered. This man and his church belong in hell. www.nbcnews.com/news/world/adoption-highest-forms-love-pope-francis-says-rcna11065

I was just kind of sitting and waiting for someone to start this topic. Remember when the Pope was cool, a man of the people type, like a few months ago? Oh noes he dint!
My initial reaction to his statement was pretty much the same as yours. It's really fucking simple which should make it much easier for god's main man here on earth to understand: If people would rather have a dog than kids, that's THEIR business, so fuck off.
But I do believe that this idea we all seem to have about one person being THE authority and the word, not the least of which being an entire religion, is going to wind up being a massive problem for the planet at some point. The good news is that the catholic church (among others) have been seeing a steady decline in their sheeples over the past few decades. And I would assume that those who are "devout" pay no more attention to the doctrine than they do to vaccine mandates.

Yeah, I knew he wasn't the pope o love when he came out and said that being gay was still a sin, but we should love the sinner.
And if it's so selfish not to have kids, why doesn't he tell the priests and nuns to start getting busy? They weren't commanded to be celibate in the early days of the church ya know....

Martin Luther is out there procreating enough to make up the difference and then some.
I'd be screwed if I had to rely on muscle memory and forgot my pencil to take notes during that class... so what's the word on having 2 of each?

I’ve met so many people during my years of volunteer work that should not have a pet, much less a kid. I made the decision early in my 20s that children were not in my future. When my nephew was born, I wavered a bit. But given my health issues, many inherited, I knew it wasn’t a good idea.

Pam, you selfish bitch! You should have fostered kids instead of dogs!
I still can't see straight thinking of the absolute ignorance and mean-spiritedness of that man. How dare he?
And I'd love to see what the church has done recently to create programs that focus on children - things like nutrition programs, access to health care, access to good educational opportunities, safe housing, care for children who have disabilities, and support for parents. What? That isn't the job of the church? Right. Their job is to accumulate wealth so they can pay off abuse cases.

You can check for answers to the above questions from, IIRC Catholic Charities, and they probably report worldwide activities and expenditures. They have accountants for real like. There aren't as many Joel Osteens in there (or the worlds) as you'd think.

I bet there are some Catholic Churches with money hidden in the walls.

Some? Take a tour of most of the great cathedrals or the Vatican itself for that matter - gold galore!
But there are some Catholic churches out there doing good things for people. It's just too bad that the pope chooses to focus on bullshit rather that those in his flock who follow the gospel and feed the poor.
