One of our customers called in. She has covid. She also has asthma, so she's beyond miserable right now. Good news is that she's fully vaxxed and has her booster, so it looks like this will be as bad as it gets for her.
That's not what fries me though. She's at home, flat on her back but she has to call in to ask us a question because no one else can apparently do her effing job!!!
Employers who do shit like this piss me off.

It depends on the company type, size, structure, budget, bottom line, and about 100 other things. Yesitty yes yes if you were talking about AT&T or Dominion Power, or Walmart even, I hear you. She probably works for a company that for whatever reason has literally only that one person that can do that job. It's not at all uncommon in a very large part of the labor, service, and industrial sectors that one monkey can and will stop a show. Or at least slow it down to a crawl.
And just think. Since she's able to, evidenced by the fact that she IS doing it, that company gets to continue to operate like a finely tuned machine.

My BFF’s ex son-in-law took her grandson to spend Christmas week with his family in PA. He brought him back during the storm and FUBAR on 95. They finally made it to Richmond (his home). When the grandson showed up here in King George, he was sick with Covid, along with his dad and several other members of the family. He’s feeling much better now (I was worried because he has asthma, too). But he was finally able to get vaccinated, so I’m sure that helped.

Man Pam, that completely and udderly sucks.
And John, she works for a large university. However, she's the one who's been in the department the longest and therefore has been working with the system the longest. OTOH, they pay boatloads of bucks for technical and strategic support, so no reason they couldn't have picked up the phone and called us. She's a nice person and I feel bad for her.

Of for sure. I wasn't pointing directly at her or her employer, since I know nothing about either. And I feel sorry for anyone that has to work or else. Except MF. Karma needs a helicopter ride ever once in a while.
And the ones I was referring to in general probably aren't to be faulted as most of your small businesses simply don't have someone that can do it all. Except ME, I'm a machine.

One of my older sisters was in the hospital with a bad case of pneumonia (this was before covid). She's a nurse. At that hospital. She had also been out long enough to get short-term disability (kicked in after 5 straight days of sick leave). Despite all of that, her direct supervisor had no issues with sending the nurses who had to take over her patients down to her floor to ask her questions! Cause it was important - never mind that my sister was just about delirious, or that the questions were things that could be looked up in the patient's chart. My other sister (who was a department manager at the time), called the supervisor and read her the riot act. Told her that we'd sue the shit out of the hospital for violating federal HR law concerning disability leave. For some strange reason the only visits my sister got after that were social ones

Yeah, she (my BFF) is fighting this on so many fronts. She works at an antique mart here in King George. The owner does not “believe” in masks so doesn’t require them. She had to work today with a young lady that is awaiting her test results as she is suffering symptoms. She bought a KN95 mask but cannot use it because it fits too high on her nose to work with her glasses, so she’s back to cotton masks for now. I’ve sent her (and her daughter, who is a waitress) a box of NIOSH N95 masks. I hope they fit better. Quite a few employees have been out with Covid recently, which means more hours of exposure for her. I worry about her. She’s about the same age as I am but doesn’t have as many health issues as I. So far, she is feeling well after caring for her grandson. I’m hoping she gets through it without another infection. She’s careful but there’s only so much one can do.

I don't know about you John, but I'm thinking we need to up the research game.
Pot brownies (CBD for Covid, chocolate for the cancer), wine for the heart.
