Gun Owners' Law #1: know what the phuque you are pointing your gawdam weapon at, dumbass.
Simple (rallyesque) solution: we kill *everyone* who owns a gun, and there will never again be any "accidents" like that. 100% solution!

You mean when they intended to leave something else in the car?
Because Heroman wanted to shoot someone, probably to kill someone. Lucky he had the opportunity, because his execution* was almost 100% perfect. Maybe he wished on a monkey paw for his big chance to protect his home. You know what happens with a monkey paw wish.
*Of course pun intended.

So? The guy used his gun exactly as intended, and it functioned perfectly. He got to exercise his right, end of story. Why worry about laws, or even worry about preventing this kind of event? It's an illustration of Freedom.

Yeah, but that all begs the question of why laws and this sort of event are assumed to be connected. Is there any law that prevents anything?

Yeah, but that all begs the question of why laws and this sort of event are assumed to be connected. Is there any law that prevents anything? We should not have any laws unless there is 100% guaranteed compliance.

Need a law against making dumb mistakes. "Neglegent homicide" would not be 100% effective, but would probably make a difference if publicized with respect to shooting innocent people accidentally.
