While I agree with his stance on saying that he doesn't want his name on a jersey showing the new name/logo as he didn't play under that name, I also think he's being more than a bit of an asshole here.
It makes him feel filthy and disenfranchised? Seriously? The team has seriously sucked for decades, has more than one lawsuit against them for both sexual harassment and mistreatment of employees, but having his name on a rebranded jersey is what does it for him??
Cause he sure didn't seem to mind being associated with the team when it was called the Redskins, and all of this shit existed under that name (and who knows what more in the good ole days of JKC). Guess the behavior of the team, and it's performance on and off the field is fine. Changing the name - ooooh disgusting.

Yeah well some of my heros are assholes. Sue me. Not everyone that inspires you has to be a sage.
By the way, I think you just proved my points about Neil Young et al.... you supported his decision and his right in that scenario but calling Riggo an asshole for doing essentially the same thing. People that are being listened to will say shit that in every respect, gets profoundly more attention that it really deserves. Take the moral highground veil out of the way and there's the commercialism/corporatism running the whole show and watching their stocks increase. Villainization is BIG business these days.
PS Aside from what you said, a lot of which IS absolutely true, I DO wonder what his position was on the team when they went WFT. If it was about his name on any other Jersey besides the skins (and the Jets IIRC) then he should have disallowed it to be used on WFT as well, right?

LOLz. If he wants to control how his image is used, he needs to own the rights. Like Neal Young owns his rights. I'm pretty sure NFL owns a lot of those image and name rights.
Now let's hear that millionaire whine for all those uncompensated NCAA athletes and their names and images.

Um, Riggo was once one of those uncompensated NCAA athletes. You do know that, right?
And I don't know what his position was regarding gear being sold with his name and WFT. I do believe that if a team changes their name/logo that players who played under the old one who are no longer playing should be given the option to not have their name be put on the new shirts. So for example, the Caps have been through several logo changes. I can fully understand if someone like Ron Langway who played in the early years feels like they want their name associated with that time frame and not put on the newer jerseys.

I remember watching a NASCAR race and them talking about Nextel Cup Champion Buddy Baker. Problem is, Buddy Baker won the WINSTON CUP and as far as anyone knows, no one was sent to his house to replace his trophy/s with the current corporate sponsor. And I'm sure they'll continue to smear the former champions titles this way every time they sign a new deal with bigger sponsors.
And no, it wasn't about Winston cigarettes and all the bs excuses you hear. It's about corporate control right down to the penny.
By the way, I also have heros from the team formerly known as the Washington Redskins (Art Monk, Darryl Green) that supported the name change and likely don't mind having their names on the new or newer or newest jerseys but I haven't heard anything on that yet. But how about this- All 3 of these guys have their superbowl jerseys (actually teh whole uniform) in the PFHOF in Canton. What will they do with the many others that were inducted as Redskins, especially Joe Gibbs' bust which said he coached the Resdkins from [1980-1997] will they do a Winston Cup and yank the nameplate off and change it?

Interesting question. I'd say that if no money changes hands, it stays the same (as I feel it should).
In a perfect world, the team and NFL history would be shown as it was - the name was the Redskins - there has been a long history of controversy about the name, but the name stood until 2020 and the BLM movement - at that point, the prominent sponsors of the team withdrew their support for the name and it was changed.
Of course, that means the NFL would have to acknowledge what we all know - it's all about the Benjamins and nothing else. So I suspect that it will be a tale of justice that was long overdue, but the team and NFL Did The Right Thing.

Well it's only partly about the "controversy". There was no controversy about the team name when Abe Pollin went and changed one of the best franchise names of any team in sports (except maybe the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs) and there wasn't an actual bullet on the uniform or mascots per my tired memory. But he did what he thought was right, or to make a bigger name for himself, or something, but it wasn't 28 white people in man-buns with signs outside the stadium every week.
