I canceled today. I haven’t watched it much the past few years and I turned it on today and found none of the channels worked. I’ve read that they have experienced many technical difficulties the past 2 weeks. But my directv system is so fucked up, my available channels decrease daily it seems. I have 2 lines coming in from the dish but only one is working. Because my internet is so crapp, I have to use an older model of receiver. I can’t get guide data, so browsing what’s on takes a lot longer. And I have to switch the input cable twice daily to keep the receiver from rebooting itself. To watch, it needs to be connected to one input port. To download guide stuff, it needs to be on another input.
I stuck with directv so long because of Sunday Ticket. I’ve had it pretty much since it’s inception, with a break of 2 years when I was with mom. I think ATT is concentrating on the streaming side and is letting the traditional tv go. Once they lose Sunday Ticket next year, they are going to be hurting. Well, as much as a conglomerate like that can hurt. 🤣

We refuse to pay 200+ a month for internet and cable no matter how fast and how reliable they are. Our cell service is with Consumer Cellular and we've even had their hotspot at one time for less than 100/mo. Right now with just the phones and 3GB of mobile data we're at about 54/mo because I financed a cheap phone when my last one shit the bed. That's 10/mo and will be paid off in a year. Then back to 44/mo. We have Comcast internet at 60/mo for plenty of b/w and we get a credit for something like 30/mo thanks to that program they set up for low income folks during the pandemic. So we're at <#100 month for phone, data, and internet. We have Amazon Prime and IIRC that includes Prime TV. We also get a break on that so it's around 10/mo. Otherwise we'll sign up for Netflix for a month and cancel, Disney for a month and cancel, HBO MAX, Hulu, whatever...... and we've been doing that for a while now even in the other burg.
My daughter and SIL just got T Mobile because they couldn't get internet where they are. Now they have a hotspot with unlimited data, so they not only can now have the baby monitor and other wifi devices they can use, but also youtube tv or whatever streming service they want.

I need to have reliable internet for work, so we are shelling out the bux for the entire package right now. Not sure what we'll do after I retire, but that's still a ways off.

I’m a huge procrastinator. I suppose when all my channels stop working, I’ll switch. A tech came by a few years ago but couldn’t get on the roof to check the dish because it had just rained before he arrived so the roof was slippery (company rule). So, all he did was take photos of my disgusting home. He told me he needed them to prove I had a picture on my tv. I’m not an idiot.

Well tonight I was getting caught up on news. I’d click on an article, then go pee or perform some other task while it loads. I waited over 5 minutes for a NYT article with photos of the funeral processions and finally gave up (I wanted to see the Windsor stuff). I suspect that the new iOS is being downloaded in the background. At least I hope that’s the issue. This is ridiculous!
