We have been blasted with ads over the past few months about Thyroid Eye Disease and the brand new drugs available to treat it. Now they say at least one of them has horrific side effects, including tinnitus. Now that they know a cause, maybe they can develop a cure? ? It drives me batty at times. I’d love a cure for at least one of my chronic maladies.

It's the whole 'rush to market' thing. Too much shit is getting approved without looking at the very real side effects.
And too many doctors aren't informed about potential side effects, as the drug companies play that shit down big time.
Then again, judging by the comments on many articles people are indeed way too stupid to do a cost-benefit analysis. What? Taking this drug will cure my cancer, but there's a 50% chance I may have episodes of the runs? I can't be running to the bathroom all day!

They are still advertising the drug for TED. I laugh at the ads for the drug that gets rid of involuntary movements caused by antidepressants. 🤣🤣🤣 Now we are making drugs for side effects from other drugs. To hell with real chronic diseases.

Tardive dyskinesia isn't too funny when you have it. People were asking if I had been checked for Parkinson's because my tremors became so pronounced. And I was starting to have difficulty doing things like writing a note because my hands weren't steady.
In my case, it was brought on by my mood stabilizer (Abilify), and I was prescribed a beta blocker (Inderal) to try and limit the tremors. I did end up switching my mood stabilizer to Lamictal, but still have to take the Inderal because the TD didn't go away.
I'm super lucky - I had enough awareness of how things were before I went on Abilify to not want to stop taking it, and using a beta blocker did help limit my TD. There are a lot of folks out there who completely drop their medications because they can't afford to add another one, they forget how poorly they felt or performed before they were on them, or they can't afford to add another medication.
I guess it's kind of like the TED drug - you have to decide - is it worth clearing up your eye issue if you have constant ringing in your ears? In my case, it was worth the TD to have some level of what it must be like to function normally. Sadly, I never knew it existed until I developed it. To me, it should be discussed when antidepressants and mood stabilizers are prescribed.

Absolutely! All side effects should be discussed before the prescription is written. I wasn’t belittling the condition , but the process. It seems backward to me. But rushed is a good analogy.

It's totally backwards. And TD is brought on by the newer antidepressants, like Effexor and Cymbalta - the older ones don't seem to cause it. You'd think they'd do some research on why, but it's much, much easier to just create a new drug.
OTOH, my SIL has Parkinsons, so the new drug may help with the tremors - we shall see.

I took both of those! I may be miserable off them but I’m not trembling.
