The Governor signed a law that bans tik tok in the state. It's tough to find any information on exactly how the state may punish one for violating that law, and even tougher to find out how the state might implement the plan as a whole (straight from the GOP playbook). The only thing I've seen is that they intend to prohibit Apple, Google, etc from offering downloads of the app. I've got no idea on how that's even supposed to work but apparently there's a $10,000 fine involved with no direct instruction in the law on to whom that fine would be imposed.
Nazi Germany anyone?

I can see reasons to ban the tok (and Temu as well - nice little spying app).
But how the hell it could be enforced is another matter. Apple has already said that it can't and won't restrict apps to being downloaded only in certain areas. And how the hell would you tell that someone has the tok? Are they going to suddenly start checking everyone's phone. Clearly they're too stupid to realize that kids won't immediately figure out how to hide it.
Yet another piece of feel-good legislation. Now all the good parents of Montana can feel safe and not have to worry about actually talking with their kids about the risks of the app, or worse yet, making sure their little darlins aren't using it!

I just have this image of a Nazi officer demanding "show me your phone". To me it's just like that. And if it's not, what's the difference between sharing your information with the Chinese government or with Microsoft? Probably not much.

Oh yeah, it's 100% 'show me your phone'.
And you have a point about who you're sharing information with.
I suspect Apple and Microsoft will sue the state saying that the state can't ban these apps. So once again Republicans are spending your tax dollars on stupid shit. But hey, that's what the voters of Montana want.

Literally no one had ever read the entire UA/TOS except for the people that wrote it. Even if someone actually did they wasted their time, unless they're a contracts lawyer. Still, I assume in every single one there's something that says "holds harmless" and various other "we'll exploit your data for our own purposes in every way currently legally available to us, and you'll be fine with it".
