Rather than start a new thread I'll just put it here. News this morning saying he wants his trial after the election.
Who will be ready to make sure that's a hard no?

Me! Both he and his minion have filed delays. Minion says he can’t make the Friday hearing because his lawyer is in trial in DC. Of course, this is the lawyer that isn’t licensed to practice in FL.
Im really looking forward to Fanni Willis’ grand jury outcomes. Two were seated yesterday and I’m hoping quite a few of the Jan 6 collaborators are indicted.

If the judge has even half a brain, she’ll push to have preliminary shit cleared. Not holding my breath on that.
And he shouldn’t be able to use the excuse of ‘my lawyer’s busy’
Total bullshit.

Especially with her past record and lack of experience.

My stupid browser won't open it. I need to start using Firefox or something.
That case isn't even the one I give a cold piss about but the media has done a bang up job of making everyone thing it's more than just another in a k\long list of things that are essentially meaningless. He. Will. Not. Go. To. Jail. Not even for 1/6. The thing in GA is a farce. First it's "this summer" then it's "appointed 2 grand juries".... WHERE THE FFFFFFFFk was the grand jury when "this summer" rolled around? That's right now it's December, I forgot. Color me as unimpressed as ever and 100% sure he walks away from all those and whatever follows. And less then 100% he'll be 47, but not counting it out at all.

Unless the justice department is willing to give some of these Republicans clearances so they can get a peek at what Trump was bragging about stealing, AND are willing to be shocked enough to call him out for the traitor he is, then he’s going to be 47. And if he’s 47, we can just go ahead and rip up what’s left of the constitution and abandon all rule of law.
Too bad we can’t get ANYONE with enough balls in government to clearly and repeatedly state the obvious. Trump refused to concede a fair election. Trump deliberately took highly classified documents from the White House after his term ended and showed them to his golfing buddies. For bragging rights. Documents concerning our National defense.
You want to say you support our troops and military? You should be screaming from every rooftop that this man is nothing but scum.
I honestly don’t get it. I really don’t. They all claim to despise the man off the record, and there are alternatives who will do the job and be easier to work with. So why Trump? Whyyyyyyyyyy?

His base.

His base would flock to them if they threw them the remnants of a can of beer someone pissed in. His opponents should have converted those assholes to their cause long ago, and if they had even 1/2 of a ball they would have.
I am so fucking sick of everyone in this country acting like Trump's base is some sort of mythical beast that will slay anyone who dares approach. The longer we keep up that particular lie, the closer we get to a repeat term and the start of True Hell.

John, this one is definitely worth a read - it's absolutely chilling and I have zero doubt that this is the Republican plan.

No surprises there. It was glaringly obvious during his term that this was his plan even then. Remember when Stephen Miller, in the WH for all of a week, said "we will not be questioned"? That was a precursor for how they wanted to seize power by expanding, seemingly without restriction, executive powers. Thing is, they can't stop elections and they can't enact these policies without directly defying the Constitution. They can try but they will fail. And when a Democrat wins, they will want to rescind everything. Surely there are -Rs that are fully aware of the tremendous peril that would put the party in and may lose voter support long-term.
I don't see where this strategy is any more of a threat as we've had in the past two national elections, in which the support for firebrand conservatives hasn't lived up to the hype. Yes there are still sycophants that worship at the feet of The MAGGAT but this country will rid itself of tyrants eventually, one way or another.

Perhaps, but I worry about people being complacent again. And I worry a lot about Kennedy running as a Dem. He's starting to get some momentum based on his name alone, and he's a total crackpot in the MAGA mold. So if he gets in, it will erode things further.
All we can do is try and get people to vote though.

At some point we're going to need to have someone/something to vote for rather than someone/something to vote against. That's where complacency is going to come from. That being said, I will gladly vote against Trump or Desantis simply to keep a someone/something from acquiring the highest office in the land. But when it comes right down to anyone else, I'm still an independent voter that has only slightly more than moderate views when it comes to where I'm at on the political spectrum. I don't like far left progressivism any more than I like far right right conservatism.
As for he who shall not be named, I love how the media is hyping this news that he was notified about being the "target" of the investigation into 1/6. Well not shit. Is this how we sell ad space now? I mean it's utterly insulting that they want to present this as some kind of sum of all fears for DJT. What a joke our media is.

I thought that was about him being the target of the Georgia grand jury probe.
So hard to keep track of his legal shit...
And I agree that we need someone to vote for, rather than against. I suspect that the majority of the country is moderate and has pretty much the same priorities.
And banning medical procedures, preventing sex, gender or race from being discussed in classrooms, banning books and putting obstacles in the way of people being able to access public services are not among them.
Passing a real budget, repairing crumbling and failing infrastructure, keeping the military strong and up to date on the latest technologies and creating more economic opportunities are probably a lot higher on the list.
