On a free trial until the 25th (thanks Prime Day!).
I've started watching a British series called 'The Secret Life of' - they have different things where they go behind the scenes to show you how large operations work. Right now I'm watching the cruise ship. It's rather interesting to see all the coordination behind the scenes and the sheer amount of supplies they use.
But some of the interesting things had to do with the ship's power, water and trash/sewage. A lot of the ship's power comes from renewable sources - they try to limit their reliance on diesel and use the heat from the engines as much as possible to power the rest of the ship. Almost all of the electricity comes from that source. They also use sea water that is desalinized for the entire ship's water supply - they have huge tanks and again use the residual heat from the engines to process the water. It supplies all the pools, bars, restaurants, and room water. And all their garbage is sorted by hand - anything that can be recycled is separated, and the rest is compacted into cubes.
I'm moving on to food service next - couldn't finish it yesterday.

I thought it was free if you were a prime member?

I think you're right. We have had it for like 3 years or more and no extra charges for it that I've noted. We did pay for Paramount+ through the Prime TV app so we could get one live local channel but now that youtube tv has some deal with google and allows family sharing, we are piggybacking on our kid's subscription which is a lot like cable with all the live local stations fo free. Which is nice because I quit our subscription when it went to 75/mo a month or two after the free trial.

It is free if you're a prime member - my membership will expire on the 25th, cause I don't want to pay for prime

We buy so much on Amazon that the membership pays for itself with free shipping, so prime tv, which is still our main streaming service, is a helluva deal.

I try to limit my purchases. Not having prime makes it a lot easier because I have to have enough to get the free shipping - I think it's a $35 order right now.
We still have Netflix and Apple TV. I do like Apple TV more than I thought I would. But Netflix does have more movies. Right now I get Apple for $6.99/mo with Verizon. If that goes up, we're cutting ties with one of them.

We try to limit our purchases too LOL. It's just that shopping on foot, for a lack of a better term, is very difficult for us both. So much easier, safer, and more convenient to shop online for delivery or curbside pickup. I'd say in-store shopping accounts for <=20% of our retail purchases and it would be even less if planned better. Amazon has always had the best prices on the vast majority of the things we buy and it's usually here next day, two at the most. And the best thing is that many of our orders might only be 10-20 bucks and sometimes just a few dollars, so the prime membership has been no worse than break-even costwise when it comes to shipping.
We need a new bed. It's a real struggle for her to get up from the supine position and get herself out of the bed, especially a problem when nature calls in the middle of the night. So we're thinking an adjustable bed might be the way to go. Since that would be considered something necessary for her well-being, she can get it funded through her trust. The thing is..... she can't really go "test" beds at the stores. It does me no good to pick a bed for her and to be honest I don't think I want to limp into MAttress Discounters and lay down on their beds. One, cooties. Two, I don't need them calling the Fire Department if I sink into something and can't get up, or if it hurts my back and can't limp back to the car. So anyway, it might be a little off topic but I see an online bed shopping experience coming soon and if you all have any suggestions I'm all ear.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Purple mattress, and you can definitely get an adjustable frame for them. I had a Sleep Number for years and loved it, but they are super expensive. We got ours from a friend who was moving and didn't want to take it with her. Bought a new pillowtop and platform for the beast and happily slept on it for over 10 years. We have a Stearns and Foster with an adjustable platform that we got at an estate sale - I can tell you for a fact that the adjustable bed is a true game changer! And yes, I clearly have no issues with slightly-used beds

One thing I will say about Amazon - their standards seem higher than others with whom I’ve had dealings. One example: when I wanted new BBCs for my satellite receiver, I googled and found a sat tv place in FL and ordered 2. They were around $10 each, but the shipping cost a bit more than the cost of one! And they were tossed in an envelope and mailed out with no protective packaging whatsoever. When I decided to get some spares, I looked on Amazon. They were a few cents more, but the shipping was free. When they arrived, they were each individually wrapped and packed so that they were in perfect condition - no bent pins, tangled cables, etc.

She ordered a big box of Atkin's snack bars from prime and they packed it with a cold pack and a bunch of foam padding.

BTW, slept on a Purple mattress this weekend (we bought a place at White Tail Resort) and it came with a Purple mattress. Highly recommend.

So, it looks like my subscribe and save order (that was scheduled for delivery on the 15th) is now in Fredericksburg. Wonder when it will arrive? Im glad I stock up on stuff!
And, I ordered several tubes of deodorant but it looks like they only shipped one. A month after I ordered them.

Well, it's all 'supply chain' issues. We'll overlook that most of those have been resolved. And we'll also overlook the obscene profits Jeff Bezos racked in last year.
